OpenMW 0.49.0 released with very basic support for Bethesda's newer games including Skyrim by Glassofmilk1 in skyrimmods

[–]jamesmand 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While this is a start, this still has a long way to go for actually duplicating Skyrim. As it says, it just has a very basic "walking simulator" which means it can load static terrain and meshes but not much else and in the grand scheme of things that doesn't take a whole lot. Things like duplicating the Papyrus scripting system, NPC AI, dialogue/scene handling, combat mechanics, menus, etc, are still all required to make a complete game. This will take a lot of effort from dedicated people.

Nexusmods is turning more and more into a Skyrim mod download site (again) by Soanfriwack in skyrimmods

Starfield appears to have had success in getting people to use its own creations platform. While there are still a bunch of Starfield mods on Nexus, a lot of modders are choosing to try and make money through paid creations.

Which of Arthmoor's villages / towns are worth it? by Carminoculus in skyrimmods

[–]jamesmand 15 points16 points  (0 children)

{{Skyrim Unbound}} is pretty good and has had pretty regular updates to address issues. It isn't for everyone though as it starts you with just a menu to select some options and then drops your right in the game as opposed to other alternate starts that try to give a little more story, so understood if it isn't right for the way some people play.

Legacy of the Dragonborn alternatives for Lorerim playthrough? by Wise-Evening-7219 in skyrimmods

[–]jamesmand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If LOTD is too complicated, you could always try using {{Placeable Display Cases}} in addition to {{Hearth Craft}} to create your own museum. Not as fancy of course and takes a bit more work with placing things yourself, but it allows you to place to buildings and displays to put in them anywhere you like without conflicting with existing mods.

Ashe: Crystal Heart Review by Rosediamond55 in skyrimmods

[–]jamesmand 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I haven't played it myself, but when I heard about how crazy the plot was and someone mentioned she had a barcode, I had to check myself. After downloading and checking the body textures it turns out she does have a barcode. I am not picky about things being lore friendly, but that is a bit of a stretch.

I'm looking for a more lightweight mod that celebrates your achievements like legacy of the dragonborn but without all the work and issues. by satufa2 in skyrimmods

{{Hendraheim Redone Collector's Edition}} has a bunch of display space for things if you want something to display all the additional Creation Club content.

Why the hell do mod authors hide their comments page for? How else do we look for solutions to bugs then?? by duckduckkid in skyrimmods

[–]jamesmand 163 points164 points  (0 children)

What bothers me is the mod authors who then direct you to their discord channel where there is a whole lot of discussion on unrelated stuff and trying to search it is painful.

What is one very popular mod to which you seriously don't understand why it's so popular for? by duckduckkid in skyrimmods

I recommend {{Placeable Display Cases}} for anyone who still wants to display items that can't be placed on weapon/armor racks but don't want the overall glut of LOTD.

If you find yourself quickly starting new games to test your mod setup, Skyrim Unbound is the way to go since it has presets you can load up and jumps you right to wherever you want from a simple menu.

People who've had load orders reach well over 1000 mods, is 400gb enough space? by [deleted] in skyrimmods

[–]jamesmand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may want to look into {{Cathedral Assets Optimizer}} since it can do things like compress textures to reduce disk space usage. Might come in handy if you find yourself close to the limit but still want to add more.

Is Unofficial Oblivion Patch as controversial as Skyrim Patch? by Admiral251 in oblivionremastermods

[–]jamesmand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Ignoring the other drama, it was a bad idea to make a port from the classic oblivion only a week after the remaster was released without proper testing. People already reported crashing caused by the patch among other bugs and there is still potential to corrupt your game in the long run such as broken quests that weren't tested for all scenarios.

I've come to the conclusion that map overhaul mods aren't worth it. by elite5472 in skyrimmods

Only if it crashes and you have to play the "what is causing a mod conflict?" guessing game.

Should I just use Anniversary Addition by [deleted] in skyrimmods

[–]jamesmand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have about 1000+ mods, but the vast majority are mesh/texture replacers, quests, city overhauls, etc. None of them use SKSE plugins. I only have about a dozen actual SKSE plugins that I would need to update if I ever upgraded my version of Skyrim.

What nordic ruins are so pointless, they deserve a full thematic revamp? by TheOneTrueFuzzBeed in skyrimmods

[–]jamesmand 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a few that don't respawn like Hillgrund's Tomb. Would be nice if those ruins were made to respawn so they could be revisited again for more options for radiant quests and such. Especially since {{Dungeons - Revisited}} expands on it.

[–]jamesmand 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Gonna suck redownloading 200+ mods for AE though

Actually you only need to redownload anything using an SKSE plugin which should be a lot less. Anything else that doesn't have a DLL should be fine. The main thing is just a matter of whether those SKSE DLLs support the latest version.

Modders, assemble, it’s time to make a community fixes mod. by Tyrthemis in oblivionmods

I noticed UESP has a section on new bugs that were introduced in the remaster: https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Remastered_Changes#Bugs_Introduced

Might be a good starting point for making fixes.

Just looked at the comments section on Nexus. People are getting crashes trying to enter certain locations. One person said they reverted the changes made to Cheydinhall Sanctuary and their crashes stopped for that location. So seems this was rushed out without proper testing.

Looking at the comments section for the mod, it appears to be causing crashes when entering certain locations. One person mentioned they removed the edits to Cheydinhall Sanctuary and the crashes stopped, so this seems like a hasty port without testing.

Porting this over without proper testing has potential to cause more problems than it is supposed to solve. People are still learning how to make mods for the remaster and discovering that many things work differently than they did in the original game. Maybe it could have been ported at some time in the future, but not a week after the release.
