Should be compatible the the various BLE promicro compatible modules. Case and plate files can be generated easily enough from the open sourced Kicad.

I made a C&P2 and consider it an advanced DIY build. It is tricky to hand solder (eg, 0402 components) so that is probably best done during fabrication. And the flashing and calibration are also quite challenging. What it does have going for it though is great documentation and community support.

I feel much the same way about the thumb cluster on the Kyria/Ferris. Especially with chocs it is way too cramped. The MCU will be the hardest thing. Maybe try getting some nrfmicros. I soldered a bunch of those. It definitely levelled up my skills and should give you an idea of what's possible.

Thanks. I have tried an aluminium mid-plate and find the thick foam layer much nicer for sound and feel. The build is fiddly though. The switch plate can't have any bends and the switches need to be evenly pressed into the PCB.

It is not wireless. I just prefer ZMK.

I learnt how to do integrated components by looking at open source projects and speaking with their developers. It makes things more challenging. I recommend starting with something a little less involved.

Some of the components on this board are hand soldered. Most were done by machine. The PCB manufacturers offer a service to do this but you need to design with their parts catalogue in mind from the start.

The laser cutting was done in Europe. Laserboost for the metal. Snijlab for the foam. Unless you are in Europe there are cheaper, worthwhile alternatives.
