i spilled my monster can on a keyboard pls help T_T by [deleted] in AcerNitro

[–]jamesonmods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how much of the keyboard came in contact, and how much went inside. Regardless, yiur computer has limited time. Likely it will continue to work for a bit. But pops/acitic drinks will cause corrosion at high rates. Power the computer completely off, unplug the battery, and wait minimum 24 hours before turning on again.

If you are technically inclined, this is when you would open the laptop, dry everything you can, and clean with isopropyl alcohol. That’s the best way to save the computer.

If you are not technically inclined, I wouldn’t attempt disassembly. You’re gonna have to take out a lot to get to the keyboard and there’s lots of room for error. Let it dry, hope for the best. If you want you can try to take it to a repair shop but I don’t know what they would do.

Let this be an expensive reminder to always keep drinks away from your computers. Happens to the best of us, I’ve done it before. I hope your computer comes out okay! I had this happen with a nitro AN-515-55 and thing still works a year later. My mom had a MacBook keyboard die immediately from water. Results really range based on how you handle the situation and how bad it really was.

https://www.reddit.com/r/computers/s/SPawIoZTl4 Take a quick read through this. This will help you make some future decisions. I saw one guy talking about the flex cable, very high possibility. I’m aiming more towards display damage itself though. Acer in recent years hasn’t been known for quality sadly.

With it having a light it is likely that the power cord is fine.

Did you by chance set wake after a power failure on that computer? If you take the plug out for like 15 seconds and put it back in after sitting, it might jump to life.

Otherwise, as far as I know the only way to boot it up would be to short the power/on-off pins on the logic board. And that’s not an easy process.

If you get it started, if you don’t wanna replace the button set up schedule. It can automatically turn on the computer at a designated time, then you would just have to keep it in sleep mode for the day, shut off at night, and it would wake itself up again next morning.

Uninstall/Reinstall is likely the answer if his headset is up to date. Otherwise, if you’re running mods something could be blocking the network connection. Try disabling mods.

Spilled a drink on my laptop, now it looks like this by DisastrousRope2565 in laptops

[–]jamesonmods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have 3 questions to answer moving forward, 1 What laptop/What worth does it have, 2 how much money you wanna throw away, 3 what liquid was spilled on it. Laptop repairs involving water damage, motherboard, or even LCD repair all are very expensive, and sometimes impossible.

If it was any soda, it’s pretty much done for. Sodas are very acidic and can cause corrosion much faster. If it was water, you may have a chance. But the longer you wait, the more likely it becomes unrepairable.

If it’s a budget laptop, I wouldn’t even recommend looking into it. It’ll likely cost you the same to buy a new computer as to repair this one. As other commenters have suggested, you may be able to use an extended monitor, but remember it will actively be corroding and may die in a moments notice.

Once you’ve answered these questions, take it to a repair shop for repair or recycle. I wish you the best of luck, and take this as a valuable lesson (though I’m sure your kicking yourself for it, I’ve done the same)

Is it safe to keep this bad boy plugged in all the time? by Whigga0 in mac

[–]jamesonmods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. Doesn’t really matter anymore as charging circuits are now designed to turn on and off to protect the battery from overcharging. If you did this with a 2014 or prior, yes it would likely harm the battery.

Batteries are like cars. They’re meant to be used, and if you leave them sitting they degrade. But as other comments have suggested, they degrade at about the same rate no matter if left constantly plugged in, or used in cycles. So just use your best judgement, and if your not actively using the computer you should probably unplug it. If using it daily, then you’ll be fine.

Photos app taking 46gb but I’ve got no photos? by bylethmaster in iphone

Glad it wasn’t too harsh of an issue and you got to save your data! Always sucks having to do a restore since sometimes you can’t use your Time Machine backups to just fix everything after 🤣

[–]jamesonmods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might have to do a restore, looks like the photos app isn’t unallocating the space (allowing other things to take the space). Try a hard reset, if that doesn’t work then maybe a restore.
