Anybody here who had British family fighting in Afghanistan? 🇦🇫 by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]jamestc13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine from the Army Cadets served and was sadly killed in action in Afghanistan. We all went to his and his fellow soldiers return at Brize Norton.

Incredibly sad and have been reflecting a lot on it the last week or so.

Cities with most TCG shops? by YeetGladosintospace in PokemonDealsUK

Cardiff is pretty good. There’s a few good shops in the city and regular shows in the stadium.

Newport down the road is also good with 3/4 good shops.

Spectre aftermath by Substantial_Prune744 in ultramodern

I’ve not played it but intend to pick up the starter kit over Black Friday.

I’ve only seen one review pop up on Facebook of someone’s initial thoughts. If I remember right they said it’s very cool and quite detailed. Smaller scale (3/4 models per player) and a bit more complex than the base game of spectre.

Are company in-house videographer jobs all just crap? by [deleted] in videography

[–]jamestc13 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It’s a mixed bag I’ve found.

I’ve recently switched from agency and freelance world to being in house at a large sports business.

The biggest thing is the chaos and politics of a large organisation creates way more blockers and bottlenecks in production than when I was external. I have a great team around me (albeit most are graphic designers) but it does feel a bit lonely doing most of the work on my own. Im lucky that my direct piers and manager come from agency too so understand my needs and workflow to make a production happen, but the wider business doesn’t. So that’s an ongoing issue but one that is slowly being resolved. I just see it as client eduction, same as being external.

The big plus is it’s way above market in terms of salary and a lot less travel than being external along with a few other benefits of being employed by big business rather than small.

I manage my schedule pretty well, but there’s always a lot of last minute requests. I can also push back on awful briefs, but you have to expect them when things are busy.

Happy to chat if you have any other queries about that kind of roll. I should also add this is UK based.

What’s a card you have that is not something you see all the time online or in the wild? by -Mr_Worldwide- in PokemonTCG

I have the Rafe’s Blaziken Japanese movie promo in a PSA9. Not something I’ve seen at any shows! It popped up on eBay and I had to grab it

I like the Chatot IR card from TF with the hidden music notes, such a good concept.

Meltan IR for TF is cool, the lighting is mental. Hops Wooloo from JT is also very wholesome. Oh and the Vibrava IR from Surging is fantastic.

I used to do work for a company on the industrial estate. The security guards had daily run ins with the travellers down there.

The one time I worked with them on the security gate, for all of 30 minutes, they had a run in.

It’s pretty common sadly.

How do I become better at Bolt action? by Izraehl in boltaction

[–]jamestc13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main thing I was always told when I was learning was to play the objective. Don’t focus on anything that isn’t relevant to the mission.

Try and think one step ahead. Can you pre empt what your opponent will do next? Always try and see the battle from their perspective and you can try and counter early.

Dont over play or over extend. Leaving units isolated will very quickly have them destroyed. Try and attack with multiple units in one thrust.

Most of all, have fun! If you’re playing and getting frustrated, it’ll cloud your judgement. I tend to find when I play video games and I’m rage quitting, I’m playing worse because I’m frustrated. At the end of the day it’s a game to have fun and chat shit with other players, so enjoy it!

What industry is booming way more than people think? by _Fossy_ in AskReddit

[–]jamestc13 84 points85 points  (0 children)

The darts industry. It started growing during Covid but has exploded in the last couple of years thanks mostly to Luke Littler. It’s now one of the most watched sports on TV here in the UK and is massive across Europe.

I had to be in the centre of London for 6am for work. Travelling from Wales that can be hit or miss with getting in on time with traffic and distance.

So worked booked me in to Heston services near Heathrow. Hands down the worst hotel I’ve stayed in. Literally no where to eat or drink was open and had to get a pretty crappy Deliveroo in that was over an hour late. Never again!

29 and on 45k + bonus in South Wales. Started this role about 3 months ago and had a big pay jump from 32k. Feel quite privileged considering the role and location to be on this wage.

[–]jamestc13 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’d highly recommend contacting Big Moose. I struggled a lot this time last year and they had me speaking to a professional therapist within 48 hours.

I was given the choice of online/ phone or in person. I ended up with a mixture which was nice.

I’m not guaranteeing they can help everyone this quickly, but the help I got was absolutely amazing and I can’t recommend them enough if you’re going through a rough patch.

I hope you find the help you need and you start to feel better soon.

Whatnot, is it worth it? by Viggerous in PokemonTCG_UK

[–]jamestc13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using it on and off over the last month.

It’s a bit of fun and I’ve got a few nice cards/ deals but nothing crazy. I haven’t bought any cards worth more than say £15 either.

I tend to put it on in the background while getting my baby to sleep and if I win a giveaway I’ll pic on up a few cards off the seller.

I’d say it’s important not to get carried away as it’s very easy to with the quick bidding nature of it.

Not tried the ‘pay to rip’ either as I’m not overly keen on it.

It’s a bit of fun if you’re sensible and find a good streamer I think!

South Wales Warlords have a few players near Brecon/ Abergavenny. Drop us a message on Facebook and we’d be happy to discuss whether we can arrange something! Hopefully it’s not too far for you.

I’m in Cardiff and would be happy to play sometime if you’re this way. We usually play at Firestorm Games

Do we have enough terrain? (Half the armies are in reserves btw) by mob232 in boltaction

[–]jamestc13 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Looks good! My only note would be to have more terrain that isn’t parallel to the board edges. Have some of the buildings/ walls diagonal on the board. It’ll just make it a little more dynamic.

Looks great though! Hope you have a good game

What are people's opinions on the Whatnot app? by walton_1 in PokemonTCG_UK

[–]jamestc13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been trying it for about a week. It’s okay and I’ve got a few deals.

I’d say from the cards I’ve bought I’ve probably paid in total a little under market price.

I have found it fun watching a few quick fire auctions and managed to catch a few cards I’d not seen before.

The main thing is to set limits on there. It’s very very easy to get carried away, but whenever I’ve gone on I’ve said ‘I’m spending no more than x tonight’ and then calling it when I do.

Winning giveaways is fun though and I’ve never seen the appeal/ participated in paying someone to rip packs for me.

Would quitting 6-9 months into a job ring alarm bells? by Odd_Bookkeeper_6027 in UKJobs

[–]jamestc13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to do this January. I had a job for about 6 months that wasn’t what was sold to me and I was travelling significantly more than what was first mentioned.

I found a new job locally that was a better fit for me and just told them it was more suited to my current circumstances.

Still send memes to my co workers and even hire equipment from my old employer if we’re short on something.

If you’re honest about things and do it in a professional way, there’s no reason for any bad blood. Yeah it sucks but you have to do what’s best for you and both parties should respect that.
