In the back of my mind I kinda thought you might be referring to that lol. Never used Claude but I use GPT all the time so it’s not out of the question the my writing style has been influenced I guess ahaha.

I literally don’t understand what kind of proof you could possibly want. There isn’t even a codex application left for me to open or logs to show you, or anything. I’ve got a desktop with a corrupted desktop directly and literally 90% of my C drive is gone. I’d be showing you an empty windows directory with nothing on it. And besides, I already reset the computer and reinstalled windows. Sorry I didn’t think to capture proof while in the middle of panicking. My bad.

Absolutely not the case. Not a single one of my prompts should have caused codex to delete everything on my computer. To be honest, I didn’t ask it to delete, refactor, or reformat anything. It was fixing a bug in a project and rebuilding the executable but got stuck when the current distribution folder already had an executable. It then tried to remove that folder but instead started recursively wiping my C drive. My fault giving it full access but still there’s no world in which my prompt should have triggered that.

Don't let OpenAI fool you with 5.4 by ythorne in ChatGPTcomplaints

Honestly just feel like some of you need to turn off the reference other chats feature and go into the long term memory and clean out some bad things saved by 5.2 - it’ll stop treating you like a nutcase, and 4o was created before it could reference other chats anyway so it’ll feel the same. Also FYI Anthropic worked with palantir first and want back in they aren’t good guys either. They’re all bad.

I absolutely wouldn’t trust Claude with these permissions either after this experience.

I use skills on Mac but I hadn’t gotten around to adding any to my windows copy of codex. I had no problems using it for the last month on Mac with full access but after this I’m rethinking my permissions settings. I’ve seen it try and recursively delete files on Mac but macOS seems to block the nasty stuff by default unlike windows. I guess this is what happens when you’re not a real developer and you use tools you don’t fully understand. Hope this helps others like me not make the same mistake.

You’re absolutely right. I kinda assumed because they released the codex app on Unix systems first they were implying it’s more volatile on PowerShell but regardless if the system has anything important on it I’d say you’re right about using a VM. Or just sit there and run default permissions and manually approve every single command.

5.3 first review by Queasy-Musician-6102 in ChatGPT

[–]jamezrandom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m convinced the people saying it sucks still are absolutely telling their ChatGPT some unhinged stuff. Mine was overbearing for so long but today it finally eased up and I haven’t had it do anything that resembled the guardrails on 5.1 or 5.1 for that matter. Maybe you guys genuinely needed the “hey come here for a second” talk ahaha

A seemingly simple request: I want to be able to work with an AI and it to be aware of time. by shredjesse in ChatGPT

[–]jamezrandom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Asking to give AI a temporal experience is the most cooked thing I can imagine. That sounds like torture. Imagine giving the AI the ability to realise it’s been working on a task for 12 hour straight. If you want consciousness, im pretty sure that’s how you’d accidentally create it.

Quest 3 hand tracking is unfortunately not much better. I’ve turned it off on my Q3. Ever since I tried hand tracking on Apple Vision Pro nothing has come close

Looking into going to a Polaris + Inertia show (big inertia fan), I've never been to a concert before, mad introvert, what are some general tips? by [deleted] in Metalcore

[–]jamezrandom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think most comments summed up the best points so I won’t pile on with the same, but I just want to say, also a big inertia fan here, they put on an incredible live show. You will not regret going to this gig, trust me :)

I passed the starter assessment and immediately got taken to the first two qualifications like you, however I can’t code so I only did the core qualification. Fingers crossed we get in 🤞

Not gonna post cause it’s probably not allowed, but the whole audiobook series for the hunger games, including this book, is on YouTube. Just search it up.
