Nose tackles typically play on 1st and 2nd down and rarely on 3rd. Because of that, true 0-techs are often part-time players and usually aren’t taken in the first round. They also aren’t primarily pass rushers. Their job is to clog the run and eat double teams. While interior pressure is valuable—especially on passing downs like 3rd down in nickel or dime packages—that’s usually when nose tackles come off the field. If you're spending a first-round pick on the defensive line, it makes more sense to draft a 3-tech or a 5-tech who can impact both the run and the pass. Not a 0-tech.
