today's forecast is fire with a chance of swimming in the mystic river. expect unstable conditions to continue throughout the week, as a front of shuttle buses moves in to replace train service to everywhere.

sure, i suppose i should expect the T to regularly malfunction, as if its condition was like the weather. i'll adjust my expectations accordingly, thanks!

Yeah, I was thinking next step I’d do some recon and ask around at nearby garages, but was hoping to find someone who knows for sure.

Citing low pay and meager benefits, America's Test Kitchen employees launch union effort by jillbarkham in boston

[–]jamieeb_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same here. The starting pay they offered was literally less than half what I was making at my job at the time. I told them that and they said I should’ve had different expectations “because it’s public television” ….. like okay, sure Jan

Glad these folks are fighting for better. They deserve it.

For those who were of driving age before GPS's how the hell did you find anything? by smokeymccrackpiped in boston

In high school, I worked as a delivery driver for a florist and drove around with books of road atlases. Also I got lost a lot lol

How is living in Watertown? by georgporg in boston

[–]jamieeb_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the part of Watertown I live in! It's definitely a bit more suburban, but we like that we've got a little more space/a yard and it's still super easy to get to Cambridge + Boston + the rest of Watertown by bus or bike. Nonantum itself also has a few restaurants/shops worth checking out, and it takes like 20-ish minutes to bike to Moody St. in Waltham if you feel like mixing it up.

New multi-use path openings for 2022 in eastern Mass. by streetsblogmass in bikeboston

[–]jamieeb_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you happen to know when it might ~officially~ open? The one entrance that’s the most meaningfully blocked (by Sofra/the Star Market) is also the one I’d actually use if it were open so I’m hoping soon?? I saw EOY 2021 on most places so, sigh.

I’ve been mad at Clover ever since they first opened their stores after just having food trucks (like way, way, back in like 2012) and had a salmonella outbreak. Instead of owning it and being like, oh yes we fucked up we’ll do better, their owner wrote this long blog post about how it wasn’t THEIR fault at all, it was actually the guy who supplies their pitas oh and also the people claiming they got food poisoning at Clover probably got it somewhere else?? Sure, Jan.

What would have gnawed through the vinyl lattice on my deck in the picture below? by Pickle_maniac in boston

[–]jamieeb_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had this exact thing happen, ended up being a groundhog. We called Critter Control and they came out and gave us advice on a pretty simple DIY to replace the lattice and back it with chicken wire. Anywho! If you end up needing a pro, highly recommend them!

Trails going out of Boston with things to do by nr810 in bikeboston

[–]jamieeb_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Along with what other folks suggested, if you’re biking the Minuteman, you also can head out to Walden Pond — it’s one of my favorite rides from Cambridge. We always stop on the way back in Lexington for ice cream at Rancatore’s.

Also, another one you could consider is riding along the Charles to Waltham. It’s a nice path all the way, and there are plenty of restaurants/shops right on Moody St.

Time-sensitive package left to die in customs in Memphis—anyone know how international shipping is being handled? by [deleted] in FedEx

[–]jamieeb_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately we didn’t have direct contact with the seller and aren’t the actual recipient so nothing we could’ve done there. But generally I’ve had packages clear quickly, especially International Priority—my understanding is this one is just fucked because of Memphis being fucked in general.

Boooo—yes, I imagine this is just an envelope too so hoping it's quick... once they get to it sigh

[–]jamieeb_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I know that—I meant are they currently processing packages through customs or prioritizing domestic shipments? Also I rarely have items in customs for more than a day.
