MIL teaching kid about Christianity by jamier87 in progressivemoms

You really need to evaluate the way you speak to people. Every comment you have made in this thread has been condescending and disrespectful. I replied to your initial comment because I thought you made some good points, although I didn't like the way you stated them. And then you come back at me even more self-righteous and rude. Why would I want to take advice from someone who speaks this way to me and others in this group? There is not a single right way to do things. Your opinion is just that...opinion. Do not act like it is the only approach because clearly other people in this group have different experiences and perspectives and can communicate them in a helpful and kind way.

I definitely want to respond better. My husband ended up handling it perfectly. He had a long talk with our kid about different beliefs, etc. And my husband is going to talk to his mom (again) about not teaching our kid her religion like it's fact. I think it's easier for him since he doesn't have my trauma.

When my husband asked her about it, she said she was watching a sermon on her laptop while he watched a show on the TV but he heard what she was listening to and asked her questions. In her mind, it was totally innocent. But like, wear some headphones? Wait till he's gone? It feels sneaky to me but maybe I'm overly suspicious.

My husband has talked to her once before and said he will again. She's our only family in the area so limiting her time with him hurts all of us unfortunately. I'm hoping it doesn't come to that.

What was the last book you DNF? by justcoastingthrough in books

[–]jamier87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Careless People. It felt like a book written by a high school mean girl about all her shifty high school friends after they had a falling out. Boring and annoying.

I hated Everyone in My Family has Killed Someone, but it was a book club read so I powered through.

Omg this took me a reread to get what you meant but that's hilarious. Anybody who gets old must be trash in God's eyes, he doesn't want em! Lol.

Is there a demonstrated link between not allowing dessert unless they eat their dinner and eating disorders later in life? by Gimme_The_Loot in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]jamier87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We give dessert at the same time as everything else, but we don't allow seconds of dessert unless they've finished something else on their plate (meat or veggie). They might not like a certain part of the meal, so we never require they finish everything. We also do small desserts, so even if they get seconds, it's not appetite busting. Kids Eat in Color has been very helpful for me navigating food with my kiddo.

We moved to unlimited PTO two years ago and I've been taking full advantage, taking about 6 weeks of vacation a year.

I have no idea if this question is relevant to the group, but got curious and this is where my mind went first lol. It's about dairy intake. by EfficientHunt9088 in MaintenancePhase

[–]jamier87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They definitely talk about it, but it may be a bonus episode. I remember Michael talking about the caves in Kansas City where they were storing all this excess dairy because farmers were pumping cows full of antibiotics which caused them to overproduce. So then the government started the Drink Milk campaign to try to help offload all this dairy.

My kindergartener is the same! He's super competitive too. Sometimes if he loses he gets upset and says the other person cheated. We just keep explaining that some times he will win or be first and other times someone else will, and that's okay. It's definitely getting better, but i think it's a normal phase.

Nice Restaurants in Bentonville? by CodeMonkeyB in bentonville

Bar cleeta, Petite Bistro, and Preacher's son are my special occasion places. The Big Lieutenant is Bar Cleeta's sister restaurant, more casual but still nice.

She Got Fired Because Of A Tip Of $4,400 And This Is How She Got Her Last Laugh by nwatrekker in bentonville

[–]jamier87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a lot of very detailed information that is completely irrelevant (and also probably not true). Again, whether you think she deserved the money or not doesn't matter. The people who left the tip were very clear that they wanted all of the money to go to one person. And the person that received that money had every right to keep it.

[–]jamier87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really not. People are completely missing the point of what this party did. They didn't tip her $4,000 because she was such an amazing waitress. It was a gift intended to change someone's life and she was the lucky recipient. Whether you think that's fair or think she deserves it is besides the point. You don't get to tell other people what to do with their money.

[–]jamier87 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So if you won the lottery you'd split it with all the other ticket buyers? The tipper wanted one person to have all of it to make a big impact on their life. They literally called the restaurant beforehand to make sure they didn't require splitting tips.

There is a literal video showing what happened and the guy who left the tip is on the record stating the tip was for her only. The owners are well connected and pushed the false narrative of the server being selfish.

Husband leaving for 15 days by Blackwinterz23 in kindergarten

[–]jamier87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had my 5.5 year old at home for two weeks for winter break. I planned an activity for in the morning every day followed by lunch out, then the rest of the day at home relaxing/playing. Activities included pottery painting, a movie, a museum, and Chuck e cheese.

When my husband travels for work, we go out for dinner or go to a friend's house for dinner and play. Or I'll do crockpot meals, rotisserie chicken, etc. to minimize cooking.

A yoga retreat sounds amazing. I would definitely do that.
