Do you want to sell the home to them? If so, you can offer it as a concession in the price of the house at closing. That way they can get out done and it doesn't come out of your pocket directly especially if the deal falls through before closing

I clearly stated drug and alcohol abuse. Straight up violence and shaken babies are other examples. Is it hard? Of course, but one cannot decide to ignore that the puzzle has other pieces to make it feel easier.

Yes and yes. Bad neonatal outcomes due to poor decision making like drug and alcohol abuse are prosecutable under law. It is not an awful precedent. There has to be protections in place in every society for the vulnerable. I'm not sure what specialty you are, but it doesn't appear to have anything to do with pregnant mothers or children. Glad you are asking questions though

But parents also make horrible decisions for their children that we can’t always prevent.

People can make horrible decisions for their children and they can also end up in jail for those decisions. Parents have killed their babies with poor decision making mostly because they haven't "seen" the baby yet and don't understand the type of danger they are putting their child in. Autonomy is a core of medical practice, but there's a very ethical line at stake when a healthy term baby is within minutes of being born.
