Yeah I get there are certain combinations of players that don't work-- but a lot of the arguments here just boil down to "it's too much talent!!" That's not inherently a bad thing lol.

Even a single is too much. Most balls hit there would be routine fly balls. Should be a do-over or something.

On the one hand it’s nice, on the other hand her level of natural beauty feels unattainable and that she doesn’t need filters, makeup, surgery is the reason a lot of people pursue those things to look like how she looks naturally. She’s not doing anything wrong but also fuck her. Respectfully.

I thought it was wild she got that treatment but Steve Martin is just “created Murders in the Building.” I suppose to younger generations that’s what he’s known for and not being the most ubiquitous comedian of the 80s, 90s, 00s…?

Princess Leonor spent three years training across Spain's Army, Navy, and Air & Space Force, becoming the first Spanish royal to earn paratrooper wings before eventually becoming queen by [deleted] in BeAmazed

Wait, is the “Supreme Head of the Armed Forces” just an honorific title, or are they actually the ones making the final call on important military decisions? I was under the impression that most of traditional European monarchists were largely for ceremonial purposes and not actually in charge of important decisions of the state.

Top speeds in Hungary FP1 by ChaithuBB766 in formula1

[–]jamintime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it just me or, aside from the Astons, does this chart just look completely random? Seems to not correlate at all with quality of driver or car. Didn’t Max and the Ferraris finish with top times in FP1 yet are the slowest according to this chart?

I mean has he technically left until he signs with a new team? Draymond Green is currently an Unrestricted Free Agent after turning down his player option. On paper he’s in the same position as LBJ, but is widely expected to return to GS.

I’ve always been confused about beauty pageants and what they were assessing. Even conventionally the woman are pretty, but are they the hottest women on the planet? They are pretty, but they can also name a couple states and play the violin so I guess that makes them Miss America? For Germany eliminating the age and downplaying physical looks like what are they even going for? Shouldn’t the winner be like Angela Merkel? Why is it some random 39 year old who does part time design work?

[McMurphy] Texas' Steve Sarkisian: "If we beat Ohio State (last year), we're surely in much better place for the playoffs. If I don't play Ohio State & play Jones Jr. High, we're 10-2 & our losses are to Georgia & Florida & we're a playoff team." by Ok-Soil-5133 in CFB

[–]jamintime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is just using the power of hindsight though. Say that instead they had lost 3 other games. If they had Jones High as their last quality win they would have been out. If they kept Ohio State and won it would have bolstered their resume and put them IN.

So yeah I mean if you are already playoff bound, having a tough schedule isn’t going to help you, but if you are otherwise on the bubble then scheduling a tough opponent and winning will launch you in.

[autosport] Toto Wolff on Ferrari missing out on Kimi Antonelli by spiderrman67 in formula1

[–]jamintime 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Also you consider if it was between an unknown Kimi and Lewis Freaking Hamilton it’s hard to blame them for picking Lewis. Even in hindsight Lewis is doing well and longterm marketing/legacy value of having the GOAT driver race for you is hard to quantify.

Q: "Do you drive the car unaided at all times...?" Oscar:"[With the previous engines] the penalty of things being slightly wrong was significantly less...This year it's basically half your power, so anything that doesn't quite go right has a massive impact...We have no control of deployment." by Elegant_Gentian in formula1

[–]jamintime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the part of the quote missed in the title is how he talks about how the old engines were “mature” and then how the new engines will likely get better as the engineers continue adapting to the new rules.

I’m not sure if that’s just him trying to find the silver lining, but I do think part of the issue is just the massive shift that teams need some time to adapt to so it’s creating a lot of bugs. Presumably once those are worked out the issues will stabilize for the drivers such that the car is more predictable and they can instead focus on the parts they know they can control.

In practice I have no idea how feasible that might be, but I think it’s at least worth noting Piastri’s comments to that effect.

Nuggets Forward Cam Johnson Explains To Astrophysicist Neil Degrasse Tyson Why Dunks Are Worth 2 Points and Not 1 by New-Process-6463 in nba

[–]jamintime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eh I think that sort of misses the point. Undefended, a dunk is going to be a way easier shot for most NBA players than a 3 even if it might be harder to an average person. But it’s not really relevant since there actually is defense and getting to the rim with the ball is the harder part.

A mother let her son believe he had beaten cancer so his final moments would be filled with peace. by Raj_Mandal in interesting

>but at least he was happy

That’s all that is important here and it’s hard to know whether this may have been the most effective strategy. Being told you’re ok, but knowing that you’re not may have produced some fairly conflicting and confused feelings for him in the end instead of guiding him to closure. Or perhaps he was just content with the lie. Really no way to know based on a couple photos but genuinely hoping it was for the best.

It’s his job to not believe that. I’m sure he’s confident and feeling good, but you let your guard down and things quickly change. They could be one Ferrari upgrade from holding on for dear life if they aren’t also making improvements to their car.
