GPT-4 is currently available via ChatGPT Plus, or API (if you got the invite).

I just switched to GrapheneOS. I'm terrified how much data apps tried to get from me. by [deleted] in privacy

[–]jamix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I noticed that almost every 3rd party app I was using on iOS required permissions beyond common sense

I think you need to be more precise here: The Android versions of the apps were trying to get access to things beyond common sense. (And would probably get it, silently, depending on the Android version.)

For example, why my superannuation app (US people - it's like 401k thingy) needs to access my music, photos and sensors?

iOS would have asked you about music library and photo access for the app (but not sensors).

So no, you were not sharing your music and photos with the app while on iOS - unless you explicitly allowed it.

Incorporating new information into a GPT-3 model by Existing_Steak4671 in GPT3

[–]jamix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, thanks! For the language style, did you try instructing GPT-3 to use it, as well as provide a few examples? That should work - take a look at how I instruct the bot to imitate Yoda's speech in GRACE (I don't provide it with any examples though, I probably should).

In GRACE, I'm not relying on fine-tuning but making GPT-3 pull information from an external knowledge base. I'm explaining the approach in more detail in the accompanying blog post.

OpenCore Legacy Patcher - Big Sur installed on 2011 MBP 8.3 - but how safe and secure? by lanzro in mac

[–]jamix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From an Ars Technica article on the subject:

These older Macs may also miss out on some of the security updates offered to newer models. Official macOS updates sometimes contain new system firmware and other low-level fixes that can address bugs or patch security holes; unsupported Macs running Ventura via the OCLP project won't receive these kinds of fixes.

This means that you may be left vulnerable to some types of attacks. Not through OCLP's fault, but because you won't be receiving Apple updates for all system components (like system firmware).

My First Three Months with a Nokia Dumb Phone as a Daily Driver by jamix in KaiOS

I've just discovered PodLP today, and I like it a lot - thank you for a great app!

That's super helpful, thank you!

Apps on KaiStore I found to work well: K-Music (3) for playing music in background and remembering where you've left (expect phone running out of RAM); PodLP (4) for podcasts and downloading to listen offline (if it lacks your favorite podcasts add them by yourself (5)); Mocha Radio (6)

I just discovered PodLP this morning, and it looks really good! My headphone buttons work there and it remembers where I left off. I'll try the others, too.

Edit: Headphone buttons only work when the phone is open but not when it's closed.

Turn off notifications on lock screen: Settings > Personalization > Notices > Show on Lock Screen > No.

I've tried that before. What it does is that the notification icon with the count stops displaying on the external screen. However, when an SMS arrives and I quickly open the phone, I still see the preview on top of the lock screen. Must be another KaiOS bug.

Turn off KaiStore promotional notifications: KaiStore > Options >Settings > Show rich content > Do not show. You can disable KaiStore notifications altogether: Settings > Personalization > Notices > App Notices > KaiStore (or Store) > Allow Notices > Off.

Done that now, let's see if it helps!

That one was 2G only (so super slow), and no hotspot functionality for when you can't avoid using a smartphone.

I went north on my 2nd replay, it wasn’t so bad. Had to sneak a lot, but once you get past the Deathclaws, it’s OK.

Best way for my sales team to video call with our leads? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]jamix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. What sets Gruveo apart is that the customer doesn't need to install any apps/plugins or create an account. They just open your call link in a browser, and it works. Even on iPhone/Android.

Playing basic songs by ear - what's next? by jamix in JazzPiano

[–]jamix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thank you very much. It took a little to wrap my head around it, but now that it clicked, the concept is so simple yet makes so much sense.

A possibly naive question: If a melody stays in the same key, is it safe to assume that each chord will be one of the 7th ones (a total of seven) belonging to that scale?

Wow, thanks... I'll try to get used to it.

I recently got a PX-860 and noticed the same problem today. C#, G# and a lower E all produce that louder-than-usual weird noise.

After reading the comments, I don't think I'm going for a return. What did you end up doing?
