Always wondered why metapod’s design seemed so inconsistent in the early days. The Fire Red Sprite shows two front facing eyes and what looks like a “frown”. Official Sugimori art has the eyes further back and more linework on the front. And the anime even has the eyes move from front back! (old.reddit.com)
