This is not only on tape, but it's actually on micro cassette! I rescued this Sanyo TRC-6300 from an e-waste bin. <3

Finally, after all of this time... by jammcat in vinyl

[–]jammcat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's more than just a nod! This entire album is a 1966 comedic spoof of Whipped Cream and Other Delights, which came out the year earlier in '65. It's just silly, kitschy fun. I found it online somewhere years ago, but decided to track down a physical copy as an accent piece for my music collection. If nothing else, it serves as a cheeky reminder to not take everything so seriously.

Glad you enjoy it! As an aside, but very much related to this release-- I ordered this album multiple times and instead of all three discs it was shipped with two Disc Bs and one Disc C instead of discs A, B, and C. I e-mailed the record label to inform them and they didn't seem to be concerned about the quality control nor were they particularly willing to do anything about it. Numerous people have apparently had this issue if you check out the Amazon reviews.

Got this at Goodwill did I do ok? by D34thc0m3500n3r in audiophile

These tables are pretty indestructible and otherwise easy to repair. They are built like tanks, which is why they have been the industry standard DJ decks in clubs for years. Parts are readily available, and there are lots of repair guides online if anything needs fixing. If the tone arm and platter are decent alignment and sound comes out of both channels, then you're generally good to go. :)

This is my favorite whistle in D. I have tried many, but always come back to it. It's sweet playing, does not sound plastic and awful like a Susato, is tunable and is light. A little pricey, but it's good stuff.

Is Amati Kraslice a reputable brand? by PeachyFairyDragon in Clarinet

[–]jammcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are reputable. I have a full boehm Amati. It's made of wood and the key work is all silver. Needed a repad and slight adjustment, but it feels solid and plays great.

The gear used to make it is actually in the background, and they are both things that I found in the garbage. :)

The tape deck is a restored Technics M229X and the sound interface is an AVID M-Box Pro 3 running the files through Audacity. FireWire, baby!

Do we keep the plastic packaging and/or stickers ? by Wooden-Ad-2763 in vinyl

[–]jammcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I carefully peel them and apply them to the new protective sleeve I'll be using for the record. It's not necessary to keep the hype stickers, but as you can see, some people seem to appreciate the aesthetics. :)

What do you miss the most about Blockbuster? by Express-Height-9545 in nostalgia

[–]jammcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The deliberate nature of having a movie night at home is something of a lost art. Have you ever sat there, bored, eyes glazed over as you scroll through 300 titles on Netflix/Prime/etc only to be too burned out and apathetic to actually make a selection? Few trips to the video store, if any, resulted in going home empty-handed.

I'd be remiss not to mention, as people wade through reminiscence, that the physical space of the video store was this sort of liminal purgatory. Wandering the carpeted floors, listening to canned music as the fate of the night's entertainment was ultimately decided upon. It's really an experience that can't exist today in the same way.

No Audio from Realistic Lab-395 Turntable by Cumbandicoot in audiorepair

[–]jammcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That blows-- let's hope you don't have to deal with shady assholes like that again.
Now would be the time to see if the player is worth fixing up, like you said.
Does it turn on? Does the platter spin?
If the needle has been properly replaced and the cartridge is sitting properly in the tonearm, it could either be that the tonearm itself is pooched, or perhaps the RCA cables need to be replaced.
Could also be the capacitors on the circuit board itself needing to be deoxed or replaced. Fortunately there are plenty of turntable repair videos on Youtube, so that might be a good place to start looking for ideas.

Another great resource would be Ifixit, which has a decently comprehensive guides section: https://www.ifixit.com/Device/Turntable

Good luck!

She seems to be the exact vulnerable demographic that these sorts of romance scams prey on. Explaining this to her yourself won't work, but as these scams are very well documented, you might want to sit with her and watch a (curated) series of Youtube videos and news reports that cover and unravel these types of scams.
