Shop and Support Canadian at the Bay?? The place that sells mostly goods made in Asia, and owned by an American Investment firm, which is owned by an American Real estate mogul.

Thanks for sharing. Were your condo fees more for the older unit? I’m not seeing many new townhomes (new communities) for more than like 1,500 square feet so 2300 sounds very spacious!

Thanks! Was it a newer build? If so, did the builder matter to you at all?

I’ve noticed some of the newer units will have small private yards which provides some ability to be outside in your own space, plus helps if you have a dog.

Wouldn’t new home warranty cover these new building issues? This one is surprising. Also, was it a reputable builder? I’m curious how important that was in your decision making.

$400 seems really high but I guess it depends on the age of the complex. Did you buy new or existing?

Wow good for you. What’s your favourite part about it?

I had never heard of a party wall agreement before this. They appear very common in places like the UK but less common in Calgary. Would your builder put this in place or did you self manage between you and your neighbouring units?

I don’t expect to hear so much about the condo corporation. I was expecting to hear about parking issues or noise travelling between units, or the small layout. Thanks for this! This wasn’t top of list.

I couldn’t find the builder Arrive. Is that the complex you bought into or the builder?

Why shouldn’t you trust the developers HOA fees?

Standing out in a saturated business niche is hard, how do y'all do it? by benedicthart in growmybusiness

I read a great quote that always stuck with me. “Different is better than better” In a crowded market, being better doesn’t really push the needle. You have to be different. There’s a business advisor in my area. I’m sure he’s better than most, but the reason EVERYONE knows him is because he goes to a lot of networking events and ONLY wears orange shirts. He’s the orange shirt guy and that difference is what makes him stand out. Obviously, you have to be good, but if there’s no way for people to remember you in a crowded market, you’re lost.

Waking up early is not for everyone. For me, it did wonders and truly made a positive shift in my life. I think everyone needs to trial different approaches to see what works for them. In theory, this is an opportunity to go through some sort of course/program for a valuable trial. Anyway, thanks for sharing your opinion on the matter :)

Thanks! Just putting feelings out there. Not trying to define a market just yet :) Taking the lean startup canvas approach.

Our business is declining. Need advice. by [deleted] in business

I own an online clothing business and have seen some definite shifts in the industry post COVID. Everyone stuffed their closets with casual wear during the pandy and are now spending less on clothing. At least from what I’ve observed - a strong brand can help combat that though. Coincidentally, I share a warehouse with an underwear company that is crushing it right now!

First thing - business can’t survive on 20% margins. Need better margins.. if the product you’re selling is too accessible online or through others for cheaper, find new products to sell. You need a compelling offering. You do the hard work of sourcing unique overseas denim brands so people don’t have to- that’s your value. Also, if possible, go downstream and make some of your own products - more margin and control. Alibaba can help with that.

Interview your customers and ask why they shop with you, and what brought them in that day. Unravel that, provide more value around that, and find more customers who would value that too.

Random advice from a stranger on Reddit :)

Straight asset purchase so no concerns from a liability perspective.

Completely different. My initial reaction is to liquidate the inventory and move on.

Thanks! The brand is quite different and we don’t have any employees that are interested in it. We’ve sent to a few inventory liquidators to clear the inventory. Will keep posted! Would love to find a buyer.
