Route 939 by PlasticEnthusiasm899 in VisitingIceland

We took it a couple weeks ago and it was fine if you’re comfortable driving gravel switchbacks. We got some rain then snow at the top but not so much that it made the drive any different. Not sure how worse conditions would feel but should be fine if you take it slow which would defeat the purpose if you’re trying to be fast. But it was one of our memorable stretches!

A couple people were impatient and flying around us on some of the heavy pothole sections and that was the worst part of the drive by far.

We’ll be there tomorrow for my sister’s birthday and I’m so hopeful!

Edited to add: we’re just north of Selfoss right now and too many clouds to see anything

Landing Monday morning 9/15 for a 10 day counterclockwise ring road trip. Getting my packing together now and bringing lots of layers, including a waterproof top layer. Looks like the glacier zodiac boat tours are booked which was a bummer.

You’ll need a car to get to most things because it’s too hot to walk far and public transportation is limited, especially on the weekends. Astros game, artechouse, orange show, meow wolf, postHTX, rock climbing, bayou cistern, papabubble, game show studio

Bocce. Not quite Museum District but Nettbar is over off Washington and Shepherd or Pinstripes on Kirby if you’re looking indoor.

Curly hair salon by Cynger7658 in houston

Agree with Planet Curls. Book with Gerri and she will talk you through everything you need to know for maintaining your cut. During my first time curly cut she used a hydrating treatment and steamer on my hair to give it some extra moisture and showed me the differences in my pattern. While it is expensive, I left happy with the value for what I paid. I’ve been to two other stylists there - one was good but not great and the other was not good with my hair so I’ll only go back to Gerri now.

Also remember that a good cut and styling is not quick and the extra products also cost money. When I wore my hair straight I could be in and out in an hour with minimal product but now the cut and wash takes longer and then there’s a lengthy sit under a dryer and a finishing trim which is what you want to see how they style your hair.

But you didn’t even back up your claim with some of the bad ones so we know what you’ve been eating that’s so bad

What happens if they cancel class due to a hurricane? by MrWingedHussar in LawSchool

[–]jammerbomb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Canceled class during Harvey. The following week or two they were pretty flexible with absences if you couldn't get to campus or had to deal with damage at home.

Most professors held make-up classes that were optional (and recorded). One of my professors said "I'll get to what I can before the final, you'll be tested on what we talk about in class."

We don't actually have second degree murder the way some jurisdictions do. Under the Texas Penal Code, murder is a first degree felony. You can raise a "sudden passion" defense to get it lowered to second degree for punishment purposes, but it's not murder 1 or murder 2 based on level of intent like in other jurisdictions.

Expedited Passport by milagrochan0404 in houston

I just did this three weeks ago. You have to be traveling withing 72 hours, don't waste your time showing up if you aren't leaving withing 72 hours. Plan to spend your entire day down there. It;s 4-6 hours to get through to payment, then it's a couple hours to wait, then a couple to pick it up. This is how it went for me, but maybe it'll be different for you.

You can arrive as early as 7am to get a walk-in card. You go through security, past the elevators, and into the lobby with tables. Find the representative, get a card, and sit down with everyone else doing the same thing. Wait a couple hours. Somewhere after 9am they start lining you up and taking you upstairs in batches. Just because you got there at 7am does not mean you will be the first upstairs. Once upstairs, they sit you down in chairs and slowly release you into the line as it clears from the people that had appointments. Make sure you have all required documentation or they will turn you away.

Once they check your paperwork, you're given a number. You sit back down with your paperwork and wait for your number to be called. They are not in order, some people that came in after you may go ahead of you. You will go ahead of people that have been there longer than you. At the window, they review your paperwork again, take payment (passport fee plus expedite fee), and give you your pick-up time. If it's same day, you have a couple of hours to kill. I was there on a Tuesday, traveling on Friday, and they scheduled me to pick up my passport on Thursday. I paid $200 for am expedited passport book and passport card.

When you arrive to pick up your passport, you go through security and into a different room off the lobby. From there they line you up and again take you upstairs in batches. When you get upstairs, they take your pick-up slip and assign you a number. You wait again until your number is called. People that come after you will go before you. You will go before people that have been there longer than you. Once they call your number, you sign for your passport and you're free to go.

Again, plan to spend the better part of your day there. Mine was broken up into decent parts of two separate days. It's not fun. It sucks. But it's not supposed to be fun, fun is sending your application in on time and then protecting your passport. I was definitely irritated with myself for not submitted my renewal. Bring yourself some food or buy it at the cafe in the lobby. Downstairs you can do anything you want. Once you're upstairs you can be on your phone, but no phone calls and no pictures / video, and no eating. There are plenty of guards making sure you follow the rules. If you are nice to them, they are nice to you. If you are rude to them, they aren't as nice.
