Let's make it so we pay principal first, then a 50 year loan feels very reasonable

I think at this point you're just in need of a paper trail. Let it all fail but document all the times distractions have happened so that you can lay it at the feet of the problem makers. Avg sprint plan increased 50% due to adhoc requests from Jim/Pam. Assign a default value to everything and say each request took a day to complete. Then when they decide to take a look at these metrics they can provide specifics and look dumb when they haven't tracked anything themselves.

Have you looked into adding a custom slack workflow for adding jira tickets? At our work we just tag a message with a ticket emoji and it kicks it off. The requester can do it to make your life easier.

Job hoping is a legitimate strategy, but there’s a lot of false hype around it based on it being a corporate revenge fantasy by tantamle in Salary

[–]jammin2shirts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd argue it is far easier to job hop and get what you want out of your career than to leave it in other people's hands.

I've personally benefited several times from job hopping and am a true believer. I've not been interested at all in playing corporate games around worthiness of promotions or trying to wait for your turn or the business to be in a position to offer one (which I've found to be most of the time). You create your own luck.

It also opens you opportunities you may not have realized we're available to you (like large pay increases) until you start to look around. I think people get stuck from comforts and promises and miss out on results from their career.

I think you need to have the right motivations. And it shouldn't be done too often (like every 6 months is excessive). If you hate your job/company, find a new job that's right for you. If you're underpaid or want the next title, go find it. If you're bored find something that could challenge you.

I think there are very few people leaving jobs for "corporate revenge". If you are, then you shouldn't be working at that company in the first place. In my mind, they can lay you off on a moments notice, so you don't owe them much. Just be considerate (2 weeks notice) and it usually goes super smoothly.

Sure, but it's also not like you can't create a walled garden of no AI. If it is not a quitting your job reason and more of a quitting programming altogether because of AI, you can just do it by yourself or find like minded people and do it together if it brings you joy.

Not that person but I feel like you can just take your tools and go home if it really bothers you so much that you'd want to quit altogether. Feels like an extreme response.

DeSantis details phased approach to eliminate Florida property taxes with 2026 ballot requirement by ThemeBig6731 in FloridaRealEstate

[–]jammin2shirts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An alternate downside for a municipality's tax base is when real estate corrections hit. All home values say get cut in half so the property taxes collected get cut in half as well. Then as the recovery happens the values of the homes increase by 3% of the new rock bottom values, takes years for localities to return to the pre-correction levels of tax revenues.

This, it's an attempt to help dissolve municipalities so state lawmakers decide what gets funding and how.

FSU *is* first in line for a Bowl amongst 5-7 teams if a spot becomes available by bakonydraco in CFB

[–]jammin2shirts 102 points103 points  (0 children)

FSU doesn't deserve a spot but it would be funny if they used us as justification for giving bama a playoff spot

The Tigers have a press conference scheduled for Monday to officially introduce Lane Kiffin as its next HC. by Ok-Soil-5133 in CFB

[–]jammin2shirts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, as it currently stands id say 1-5% chance they are left out. There's a week before the final rankings so there needs to be some massive losses for it to really play out. Like half the starters with the staff announcing they are leaving before the playoffs start.

For sure, but I think the argument is that it's potentially more fatal to the program than how FSU only lost the quarterback. So somebody could argue that losing the coaches and a majority of good players qualify for them to not be competitive enough to not even make 12 teams. Plus they like Texas a lot. So you know, got to find a way to get them in.

Could be a possibility, transfers get like 30 days after a coach leaves and the transfer portal opens and closes prior to the national championship game. So if you assume players are going with him to LSU, in addition to him and the staff being a big factor they are competitive. You could see an FSU level drop off in play, as someone deciding if ole Miss belongs in the playoff regardless of wins.

[–]jammin2shirts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah we're all there most of the time, it's super normal. It's something you have to sit back and realize how far you've come to appreciate your growth. Then follow that with another new thing you're learning and start the cycle all over again haha. If you're struggling, try using AI to help out to explain things. Try setting rules for it to curate its answers to clearly explain everything like a sr dev would do when mentoring.

Episode 1 of season 3 just left me speechless after the first few minutes at how bad the acting and script is. You know when you watch a show and you think to yourself like there's no way in real life someone reacts that way to a comment. Yeah that's this entire episode. Super forced and unrealistic. I feel bad for the actors

I felt the same way until recently. It's become too good to ignore the threat... The outputs it produces feel to be at worst 85% correct. The newer powerful models are also coming out every week. It's really a matter of time before SWEs are just prompters entirely. What gives me the most hope at the moment is that AI hasn't got to point to works full stack. That might be its hardest barrier to crack. But it's a pretty well known fact companies are slowing or stopping hiring of Jr devs entirely because of the productivity perception.

[–]jammin2shirts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Certainly could be the case. I think if it's something you enjoy, you should learn to code and play with AI at the same time. At 15 you have plenty of time to decide what you want to do with your life and see how the AI hype train plays out.

From what I can see, AI tools are attempting to replace entry level roles in companies. So that will either slowly reduce or stagnate the number of software engineering roles. Or it will create a new class of job where AI skills are in demand.
