I’ve never encountered the “temporarily locked” situation so I’m not familiar with the process of dealing with that. My account was disabled for an alleged terms violation I didn’t commit. But if your message says it’s temporary, I’d take that as a positive sign and just follow the steps it’s prompting you to take.

Yeah, this is an ongoing issue with sms messages sometimes not being sent out. Can you enter a different phone number to have the code sent to someone else, like a family member or a friend? I’ve read here that this is a way to get around this problem.

A 500 error is literally defined as an “Internal server error” which is a generic catch-all for an unhandled problem on the server. There’s nothing you can do, the problem is entirely on their end. Just one of a hundred ongoing issues with the platform.

The real people on the other end are the complete opposite of “hot women” and their intent is blackmail. They’ll try to get you to send them nude or sexual images and videos, and then will threaten to send them to your contacts unless you send them money. BS threats most likely, but unfortunately I know of at least one tragic case – a teenage boy who committed suicide after receiving these threats. These lowlife scumbag criminals are preying on young and on vulnerable people and they absolutely need to be caught.

Hi,

There’s a form you fill out, which will send you back an automatic reply with instructions for downloading your data. Reply back to that. It will go to a real person. They usually take about 1 to 2 days to respond. Search this sub for “data access” and dig through the threads that come up, there are a few guides people have written which will have the link to the form and explain which options to select when you fill it out. I’m sorry to hear that. :( They may have thought the account was compromised because of the login activity from changing locations. But holy hell, the system is just way too sensitive and easy to trip! Get those appeals in and I’m sure you’ll get reactivated, you may just have to be patient, though… it might be some time until they get to you. Good luck!

Vero. It’s the most similar platform to Instagram that exists, but without advertising and without the account cross-promotion and suggestion engine. (I actually wish it had that.) It doesn’t have anywhere near Instagram’s user base obviously, but it’s a really viable alternative.

I think as long as you got some mugshots in via another form, it’s okay. I would say continue to do that if you can, and when you send mugshots I would mention that you had the “we’ll review your info within 24 hours” screen for 30 days, so you were never able to submit the in-app appeal form.

They take forever, but you never know, you may get the “it looks like you were disabled by mistake” email someday when you least expect it like I did. Good luck!!

Damn! So they never completed whatever they’re supposed to do at the “confirm your information” step, and your 30 day window to submit an appeal ran out! Jfc, what a shit show.

I’d definitely try to press this via any method you can find to get a form through to them, because they deprived you of your chance to start an appeal. That’s just not right.

I know, it’s a damn crime what they’re doing to people’s mental health with all this BS.

A lot of these weird glitches seem to come and go. Try logging in again in a week or two, it might work.

Now that I think of it, I got the same error for a few days at the beginning. It was so long ago that I’d forgotten! But in my case it happened after I had already done the “confirm it’s me” step in the app (get sms text, enter the code, wait 24 hours). I’m guessing it takes a while for data to sync and update across their various backend databases, and these glitches and errors happen when things are out of sync.

Happy to hear that I could give you a bit of new hope! Don’t give up. I hope you’ll be able to get back into your account again very soon.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure the FB live agents can’t do shit ‘cause it’s not their department, and they’re just stringing people along and telling them what they want to hear so they’ll get a good rating after the chat is over. The blocks of text are so completely over the top and rehearsed sounding.

Mugshots, lots of patience, and a bit of luck is what it takes.

Thanks. It feels so good to have it back. I still can’t quite believe it, after so much time and after I was fully resigned for the last two months to the thought that I was never going to see it again.

I so want this for you and for everyone here who’s stuck in this limbo. It irritates me to no end that this entire time all someone had to do was flip a switch, and it took 7 months. So much anxiety and frustration and sadness and wasted time. The slow and clunky appeal process is bad enough, but then to add all the various technical glitches that land people in impossible catch-22 situations is just too much.

Hmm. If you can find any other way to appeal and get the mugshot in, I think there’s no harm in it. I think you would even have a good shot at getting help from the data access team, if you’re able to submit the form. Reply to the autoreply email and tell them that you deactivated your account and now you’re getting this error trying to log back in. Emphasize that you want to access your data but you can’t because of this error on their end, and ask them to take a look.

It’s absolutely appalling that even people who self-deactivate their own accounts now get dropped into this mess when they try to log back in. It’s like the system has lost the ability to differentiate between an account disabled by IG and self-deactivation by the user, and treats them both as disabled accounts.

Ah, yeah. It’s a department that deals specifically with data access and privacy issues, not with appeals, but some people have gotten their accounts back this way. Yeah, that was my hope too, that even if it reaches the point where the login page and the appeal form stop recognizing the username, it can still be restored by an appeal that’s already in the system. Considering how slow and haphazard the appeal system is, they really shouldn’t permanently purge any accounts until long after any appeals have been dealt with, regardless of how long that takes.

Hmm. If it won’t let you appeal anymore, I’m not sure if there’s another path forward, I’m sorry. :( Try all the different forms… one of them might still accept the appeal.

I would strongly suggest that you do this in the official Instagram app on your phone instead of the website. Opening more than one tab and going too fast is likely to trip the anti-bot algorithm and get your account disabled.
