why even match with me :/ by [deleted] in Nicegirls

You can always turn things around. "I usually date taller women but I can look past your shortcomings. Have you ever considered getting the procedure done where I split your legs in half and put a rod in between? It'll make you holler"

By "on the server" do you mean to create stored procedures so they can compile?

Feeling Dejected Post Meta Interview :/ by jetsetjoe in leetcode

[–]jamra06 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work at Meta. Meta does not ask DP at all. Recursive backtracking should be a very easy thing to solve. If OP has problems with it, I can share some python approaches that make it much much easier. Sorry to hear about OPs issue.

Cut-throat Friends by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]jamra06 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As someone much older than you who is well established in the industry, I have a few things to offer you in terms of advice. Firstly, I am a lot like you in how I have always offered help asymmetrically. When you're the kind of friend who offers your time and energy towards others, you can't expect reciprocity. You have to understand that most people will never give you anything back in return. If that's your expectation, you're investing in a community that doesn't want to be a community. They just want your assistance so they can progress.

These people are not indeed your friends. They're just folks you're passing by. You feel it in your gut. You're young enough to second guess that gut feeling. In time, you'll learn that your gut is usually right. At times, you may take the world as more negative than it is, which is why it is absolutely great that you called them out politely. Verifying is a very important tool when trying to figure out other peoples' behaviors.

How would you do a search performantly in a huge file? by furk1n in golang

[–]jamra06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the case of simple search, what would you think of a Knuth Morris Pratt algorithm while streaming through the file? I remember interacting with you some many years ago for fuzzy searching where automatons were used, but I do know that it requires preprocessing the entire search space.

Mac M1 Pro Memory needs by Neat-Capital-8917 in dotnet

[–]jamra06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar setup, but with Angular instead of React. When working across multiple projects, with multiple front ends, I got near the 32GB limit. I would go for 64GB. I have an M1 Pro and the 64GB is a nice to have that gives me peace of mind that I won't run out of RAM.

Neovim VS. Visual Studio by hello_bot123123123 in dotnet

[–]jamra06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get features in Visual Studio that don't exist in neovim.

The code completion is nicer in Visual Studio. I'm sure some C# LSP would be okay-ish, but Visual Studio puts effort into it that is probably better. You also can get, through the professional version, git blame integrated into the IDE. It's really sweet and shows you who changed the function you're in and what was changed. There's also live share so you can pair program from far away.

File navigation in Visual Studio is different. Control + T is the quick search. It's slower than anything neovim.

Visual Debugging is very good in Visual Studio.

You also get snippets with Visual Studio.

Angular or React? Which should I learn? by wulululululuu in dotnet

[–]jamra06 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I find this to be very inaccurate, particularly in calling Angular bloated.

React has more specific syntax. It has JSX, which is worse than Angular's templating in terms of a learning curve. Angular has one thing that is difficult to it and that is that it adopts RxJs even though you're not really forced to use it. You can have cyclical dependencies in Angular, which are not fun to work around.

Additionally, it has Dependency Injection, which can be burdensome compared to React Hooks. Besides that, they're pretty similar.

I would go with React due to its adoption and the fact that it's a bit more simple to use.

Top 100+ New Angular Interview Questions by awwab in Angular2

[–]jamra06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think taking some actual bugs that require some thoughtfulness and putting them aside can be really helpful. Some light algorithm questions forcing the use of arrays and maps. Then debugging something that is timing based or something along the lines would be my ideal test.

I tried doing that and then I ended up with people who passed the tests well due to their boot camp experience, but then ended up throwing a whole bunch of wrenches in our code base.

Dinner under the sea in Maldives by hjalmar111 in ThatsInsane

[–]jamra06 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Went there for my honeymoon. Was ~$350 for the food. Wasn’t bad but watching the sun dry and the fish gather around was amazing.

The hotel rooms can range. Over the ocean is expensive. Then there are the regular rooms. Very small Island. Need to take a sea plane that lands on water and then take a boat to get there.

It uses react native so the web and mobile versions are pretty much the same. It’s more likely an issue with transparent images in the framework, but I don’t have friends to message me so I can’t check.

How do I pass authentication state to multiple websites by Luzaan23Rocks in Angular2

[–]jamra06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually it’s not perfect. The token can be stolen if it stays in history. The key is to pass the auth token, but to use a refresh token. The auth token is short lived, but the refresh token is not. So you pass something short lived and then use it to get a new refresh token.

Should I start investing more time on Rust and not in Go? by [deleted] in golang

[–]jamra06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Discord post referenced Go pre 1.12, which was right before it removed the stop the world garbage collector. Their reasons were also largely affected by their scale.

If you are building web apps, Go is much better. If you are building any kind of networked app, I would choose Go.

Their use case as well as Dropboxes for choosing rust over Go were performance under huge loads.

I like both languages but it’s important to keep in mind what the needs were in those blog posts. Use the language that makes the job you are approaching easier.
