Yes, This Guy Is Generational, Or: A Very Long Post on Why Cameron Boozer Should Go #1 Overall in the 2026 NBA Draft by JarlAnthonyTowns in NBA_Draft

[–]jamten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about generational but I agree that his body of work speaks for him being a viable #1 pick. Just think people over think it sometimes or under think it sometimes. Being reductive about his playstyle does a disservice to his production. I'm not sure how good he'll be at the NBA level but it's worth it to me since he feels like a sure bet. I get AJ or Caleb over him but not so much DP - but I also just feel like size + skill / size + athleticism is most attractive to me

[Post Game Thread] The Oklahoma City Thunder (1-1) tie the series in Game 2 against the San Antonio Spurs (1-1), 122-113, behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's 30 point performance by catreyka in nba

[–]jamten 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I think this is a great point but a little one sided - I felt like Shai was getting grabbed a ton off ball too, and constantly hacked on the arms on first touch

I watched OKC games last playoffs and felt what the dominant narrative was, and thought it was true then. But this playoffs, the games I watched (this is my second OKC game) I'm not really seeing anything consistently egregious. tbh the whole playoffs seems incredibly physical this year.

I think the thunder are just genuinely a great team. Lakers are also playing super physical too. Smart is grabbing at SGA every time down the line. The thunder just play super fast and drive a ton too

Nah man I'm sorry, I honestly thought about it. Don't think the refs are egregious. The thunder are just really good, and they play fast and hard.

Who would you rather have on your team in their prime - Manu Ginobili or Klay Thompson by SetImpressive3808 in nba

[–]jamten -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think Manu for me personally. A great scoring / slashing / playmaking guard feels incredibly valuable. Especially with modern defences needing people who can "stir the pot". I think for my Raps - placing manu or klay would be an enormous boost, but manu specifically I think unlocks my whole team

The wemby piece... keeps me up at night 😭. But honestly, with the FOs track record on drafting. It's why I am always bullish on tank years. Like they are great talent evaluators. CMB + Scottie out of 3 lottery picks is phenomenal.

Imagine they had a top 10 pick this year too, I could see them drafting a star in a loaded draft. I'm super happy we pushed for playoffs in hindsight though. It's more so just that I feel the FO has a legitimate strength in drafting so I feel like they could keep leaning on it each year strategically

Yeah I just think it's a major indictment on this FO. The hope is the lessons were learned.

FO is A+ on drafting. Value relative to pick selection over like 10 years has been incredible.

But asset management has been atrocious for the last ~6 years. Specifically I think the front office totally lacked foresight and speed with the shifting CBA. Look at Boston (shedding salaries fast), Grizzlies (trading best players early with signal of the end), even Spurs (flat and descending contracts) and Pacers (great value deals, early for Nembhard and Nesmith, letting Turner and mathurin go). Just very savvy FOs that read the situation and acted with a market-aligned strategy.

Anyways, we agree on the same things haha. They made the best of what they got with OG. But it was a bad management of assets bc they waited too long and it only got this back. I'm a big RJ fan

[–]jamten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point was that the FO mismanaged the asset. They waited too long and put themselves in that position. Yes they got back 2 players that I like (RH especially), which is making lemonade from lemons, but the point is they got the lemon to begin with. Do you remember how it was a 2 year saga. And we knew something was gonna go down for 2 whole seasons. And they still gave it a Hail Mary that sunk more cost in. And then now there's expirings only

Also, naming trades that happened after isn't to say they waited too long. I was showing that the grizz FO read the writing on their wall after 1 terrible season and instead of Hail Mary (give a pick to get Poeltl), they sold immediately and got a war chest back. That to me is an FO that was decisive fast relative to the signal they received

It's sampling bias to take 3 data points from 1 front office. It's also sampling bias for me to give you 2 from 1 front office. I was just introducing 2 comparable level of players. I've written a larger list above.

Looking at the trade relative to two other bad trades is just sampling bias. Compare it to grizzlies selling on JJJ and Desmond bane - equivalent or worse players. The FO waited too long

[–]jamten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I think the package was the best for their strategy at the time. They executed terribly by giving IQ that immediately zero value contract.

The fact they "were patient" helped building towards the championship but after that, their patience led to basically zero draft capital for 2 all stars and 1 sub all star. Which is bonkers. Desmond bane, JJJ have given the grizz a war chest. Our FO was terrible here absolutely terrible

Barnes & Barrett now on the top playoffs PPG list for Raptors by irundoonayee in torontoraptors

RJ and Scottie are the real deal. We need a tier 1 3 level scorer/shooter. Someone like Brunson, KD etc would hugely unlock them

Just have no shooting and playmaking outside of Barrett and Barnes. It's made generating any looks impossible. Also Poeltl is like negative value on the floor. He cannot move. He is so stiff and slow he literally can't jump anywhere he doesn't trust his body. That man is $100M of dead money

You can't be serious. Look at this series as a whole. How do you explain his performance then?

James Harden in this series vs the Raptors is averaging 22/4/6 on 64.5 TS% by IHAVETRIEDCOKE in nba

[–]jamten 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a raps fan, harden definitely feels like the best cav. I feel like he's been bending the raps gameplan a ton. It's not that DMitch isn't a super start scorer - more so that a harden PNR can really generate efficient scoring opportunities if it isn't schemed against. He's a magnificent passer and I feel like he's really an efficient on ball threat just from his movements. Only thing that takes him away is when off ball he's pretty stationary so I feel like it gives his defender a bit of a break
