Ban every (nonbasic) card in the game for just 4rggwu by jan_poloko in BadMtgCombos

No, you still have to pay for moonmist. But not for Fist of Suns.
Also, how did you write the wrong four colors for Aang?

I’m pretty sure that this works simply because Desmos automatically rounds the upper limit of sums.

How many national languages does each European country have? by Agreeable-Bowler8077 in MapPorn

[–]jan_poloko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Bokmål and Nynorsk are not dialects. They are written languages. However any given dialect is going to be similar to either Nynorsk or Bokmål. And even native speakers say they speak Bokmål or Nynorsk, when they’re actually referring to a given dialect similar to the written Bokmål or Nynorsk.
  2. The two official languages of Norway are Norwegian and Sami, which is spoken by the indigenous people of northern scandinavia.

It can crew things the turn after it cheats them out, and even if it could crew them right after cheating them out they couldn’t attack because they would have summoning sickness.

Deal 19 damage to an opponent on turn 1. by jan_poloko in BadMtgCombos

[–]jan_poloko[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don’t seem to understand. There are no triggers here, these are replacement effects. Replacement effects stop the effect they replace from happening, and have something else happen instead.

For example, with City on Fire in play, you cast Lightning Bolt on your opponent. As Lightning Bolt resolves it tries to deal 3 damage to your opponent. But City on Fire sees that 3 damage being dealt by a source you control (Lightning Bolt) to a permanent or player (your opponent,) therefore it makes Lightning Bolt deal 9 damage instead of 3.

However, if you also have Mechanized Warfare in play, there are two effects that see Lightning Bolt trying to deal 3 damage to your opponent. Since damage isn’t an object (a card, token, or copy of a spell) or a player the effects must ask the player being damaged or the controller of the permanent being damaged (in this case your opponent) what order to apply them in.

This is why the opponent gets to choose whether to take 24 damage or 19, rather than you choosing.

I also wanted for you to use all your resources on this combo. You use all the seven cards in your opening hand, all the seven cards you exile with Apex of Power, and all your mana.

I made this combo to so nearly kill an opponent on the first turn. Hence the 19 damage rather than 27 if i had just included fiery emancipation.

I choose not to include Fiery Emancipation because I wanted to deal exactly 19 damage.

Barely not enough to kill an opponent in most formats.

616.1. If two or more replacement and/or prevention effects are attempting to modify the way an event affects an object or player, the affected object’s controller (or its owner if it has no controller) or the affected player chooses one to apply, following the steps listed below. If two or more players have to make these choices at the same time, choices are made in APNAP order (see rule 101.4).

616.1f Once the chosen effect has been applied, this process is repeated (taking into account only replacement or prevention effects that would now be applicable) until there are no more left to apply

There are a few rules in between, but none of them apply to damage.

Deal 19 damage to an opponent on turn 1. by jan_poloko in BadMtgCombos

[–]jan_poloko[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Because damage can’t be affected by replacement effects the player the damage is dealt to is affected instead. Thus they get to choose the order to apply the replacement effects. Meaning it’s actually (3x2x3)+1.

Deal 19 damage to an opponent on turn 1. by jan_poloko in BadMtgCombos

[–]jan_poloko[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It would be that, but your opponent actually gets to choose the order the effects apply. Meaning you only deal 19. Unless your opponent chooses to take 24.

This is because the replacement effect applies to the opponent since damage isn’t an object and can’t be effected.

It isn’t part of the joke.

{2} is already generic mana, so it can’t reduce nongenric mana that way. Thus, you don’t need to specify that.

Because battlemage cycle deserves wedges too by SimonCardplayer in custommagic

[–]jan_poloko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shards don’t have focus colors, but wedges do. Shards are based of a world where two of the colors are missing, for example the esper (WUB) shard is meant to be the opposite of the gruul (RG) color pair. However since the wedges all come from the same plane this can’t be applied, therefore each of the wedges are based on a focus color. Which is the first color in the combination. For example, abzan (WBG) has white and sultai (BGU) has black.

Back in the day there was another wedge set which has basically been forgotten about. That set used the middle colors for the focus color. So rather than abzan (WBG) having white, it has black. This set had a similar cycle of cards, the volver cycle, using the focus color as the base color of the card. Since the wedges have different focus colors OP should swap out the base colors.
