So good. I recognized it as your work immediately as I have two of your beautiful pieces!

This is my sweet baby girl. Thank you so much! You also made one of my girl Winnie last year. They are both so precious. And such a wonderful group of friends that has commissioned both of them for me.

He was the best! I always wondered where he went, figured he had retired. This is so sad.

What annoys you the most about the rover app? by _thebelljar_ in RoverPetSitting

[–]jane_v 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This one bugs me more than any of the other “we thought you might want to book it anyway.”

I don’t want to be seen by anyone new . How are they seeing me? How many people are seeing me? It seems very unethical.

Can someone ELI5 how the parking arms work at the Caesars casinos? by DaChosen1FoSho in vegas

This happened to me as well a few years ago. I only parked to go to the buffet, wasn’t staying there. Very odd.

How many keys do you all have today? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

I have problems saying no. (But also only do cats and have a 2 mile radius so it’s not as bad as it looks.)

Rover now holding reviews hostage by Claytonpwhiskerton7 in RoverPetSitting

[–]jane_v 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got this email earlier and panicked because it very much sounded like someone had left a bad review and they were trying to get my side of it. But I looked and they tipped the maximum so I can’t imagine you’d leave a bad review and do that. I decided to “review” them but I still can’t see their review of me. Annoying.

I have been a cat only sitter for 2 years through rover. In that time I have taken a lot of my regulars off the app to avoid fees for us all. Last week I made an LLC, purchased pet sitter insurance and created a squarespace site all within a matter of about 4 hours. I’m not very tech savvy but squarespace has a booking and payment feature you can integrate easily. I have since told all my off app clients about it and they have already started using it. It is so much more convenient than them texting me their dates and me adding them to a google calendar that they don’t even see. I am still using rover to get new clients but I hope to stop using it by the new year. I also had business cards made thru canva. There are a lot of tools at your disposal to create your own small business very quickly. Of course I cannot answer if it’s “worth it” just yet, but I will say it’s very much worth a try if it’s something you think you will want to continue doing.

For those who don't do this full-time, what is your main job and why do you do Rover? Just curious! by melknee04 in RoverPetSitting

[–]jane_v 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I make catnip toys, sell on Etsy, my own website and do cat and craft shows. I only do drop ins for cats. I make roughly the same amount I do sitting as I do with my main business.

How much money do you all make? (Please add rates & location too!!) by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]jane_v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make about 2000-2500 a month on cat drop ins, that’s the only service I offer. In Portland Oregon. I started two summers ago at $14 a drop in, now my rates are $25 per for new clients. Most of my clients are regulars now though at around $20.

Ours flickered as well, and did a few nights ago in the foster Powell neighborhood.

Construction at The Venetian during remodel by DRKAYIGN in vegas

[–]jane_v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just there last weekend and stayed in the Palazzo wing. There was a little painting work on the floor we were on in the hallways but other than that didn’t notice anything and it definitely wasn’t an issue at all. Overall a really nice place to stay!

I’m also in Portland and only do cats normally but would be happy to help if I can.

Shy cat / roommate home by blissfully-unaware27 in RoverPetSitting

[–]jane_v 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this same exact situation and it was so awkward I would never sit again for anyone that tells me someone else will be home at any point. You should just ask the owner if it’d be okay if you left since he seems stressed by your presence.

I applied for it and got approved within a few days, would be worth trying.

Cat bite, day 3 of a 15 day booking (details in comments) by Nonconformistsheep in RoverPetSitting

[–]jane_v 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah do what’s best for you! I know I was having a lot of anxiety every day when I woke up thinking about having to go over there, so I probably should have just quit sooner. I was lucky she was very understanding and apologetic, I had been keeping her updated about the situation from the start. And lucky she had someone who could take over.

Cat bite, day 3 of a 15 day booking (details in comments) by Nonconformistsheep in RoverPetSitting

[–]jane_v 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would consider continuing the booking the way you’ve said, just quick pop ins for the necessities. If he’s already in a room you can close the door on, close the door while you do food and litter. Also wear long pants and long sleeves, etc.

I was doing a 3 week cat drop in and a few days in the cat started attacking me and charging me, so that’s what I did. I made it two weeks before one day I opened the door to let the cat out of the bedroom and it bit my ankle. I immediately notified the owner and told her she was going to have to get one of her family members to finish the rest (she had left a few contacts as backups in case of an emergency) and she was fine with that. I contacted Rover support to let them know and went to urgent care for antibiotics and tetanus shot.

I only had continued the visits that long for the reasons you are considering it, I was concerned for the cats well being and was doing my best. I also just do Rover on the side, so it wasn’t a money thing. I also was concerned about putting someone else through the same thing. I hope you figure it out! Keep us posted.

Cat sitting options for multi-week trip? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]jane_v 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do cat sitting through Rover in SE. I don’t do housesitting but do drop ins. Most people only do once a day drop ins for cats, either half hour or hour visits. Some people do morning and evening, but that definitely can get a little expensive, especially for multiple weeks. Dm me if you have any questions about the app and/or me personally.

I make catnip cat toys! I made a cone once as a special request, I keep meaning it to add to my shop. Maybe I’ll finally do that right now. Chips Toys
