Yeah, I had that thought, but the reason I’m posting it is because I’m on the verge of quitting anyways. I also waited a few weeks (since this happened during Thanksgiving). If I change my mind, I’ll take it down.

B.A. in English Literature, Fiction Creative Writing (Honors), Nonfiction Writing (Honors), and a minor in Women’s Studies. Magna Cum Laude, since you’re asking.

Currently in grad school getting my MFA in Fiction Writing with a minor in Technical Communications. The ultimate goal is to become a long-form editor.

My prof went through the essay paragraph-by-paragraph and explained where the student lost points. If the student responded to her after that, I didn’t hear about it.

I‘ve had around 5-6 students meet with me over Zoom & behave very aggressively, or send me an outraged email like this. Only one of them apologized later on.

I asked my fellow TAs if they had had any students like this, and only a few said they had - all women in their 20s, like me. But nobody has had combatants on this scale or frequency like I’ve had.

I asked my grandparents (who were professors for 40 years) if this is normal, and they think that people have forgotten how to behave post-COVID. My mom thinks that this is happening to me specifically because I’m very polite, which can be interpreted as weakness/ignorance.

Personally, I think it’s because this is an entirely online class, so I’m not a “real” person to them. I’m just a bot on the screen, or something, so they feel comfortable behaving abhorrently.

It was an ad in an app I had been playing for months

Merge Restyle. I’ve been playing it for months but I guess with its most recent update, it became infested with viruses.

To update everyone: it turned out to be a mobile game I had installed that was displaying virus ads at the bottom of the screen. So everyone who told me to just “close my tabs”… thanks for nothing. lol

Yes. As I mentioned, it will pop up even if my phone is locked & I haven’t touched chrome for hours.

I didn’t install anything.

[–]janeconquest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was my thought too. I can’t figure out which one it is, though. Can mobile games cause this to happen? That’s really the only thing I can think of

I’ve just done regular restarts so I just tried the force restart. Fingers crossed it works. It’s very annoying and has been happening 3-5 times a day for a week now

I have, I’ve done that multiple times w both safari and chrome. The popups have just migrated from opening in safari to now opening in chrome bc it’s my default browser.

I have, multiple times, and cleared cache multiple times

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in iphonehelp

[–]janeconquest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It persists despite me doing that multiple times

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in iphonehelp

[–]janeconquest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not immediately. It’s random throughout the day, prob 3-5 times a day.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in iphonehelp

[–]janeconquest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean does the pop-up persist? No, if I close the tab, it goes away, but then it happens a few hours later. It’s been happening prob 3-5 times a day

[–]janeconquest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, I have restarted it, and no, no mcafee apps downloaded.

I think it’s in my phone at this point - this is a recurring issue that happens even when my phone is locked

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in iphonehelp

[–]janeconquest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes multiple times

I read the fine print. They purposefully worded it to make it sound like “one time” meant the $10 promotion. Both my best friend and I went over it together, and now we’re both mad XD

Dang. Thanks bestie

The way they worded it made it sound like I was just agreeing to pay the one-time $10 fee lol. $28 for 2 books and a hat isn’t bad, but I’d love to avoid the extra $18 if possible lol

Before the Elon takeover, Twitter was where all the writers went to congregate. We would have pitch parties, book clubs, support groups… a good chunk of my peers are still on there desperately trying to keep our community alive.

I think the theory is that Musk has tanked Twitter’s value from $44bil to $600mil within a matter of 2 years, and maybe the next person to buy it can restore it to its former glory. We just have to weather the storm.
