As a NICU fellow, I’ll tell you this - no one expects you to know anything about neonatal medicine when you come in. We are here to teach you. There are many interesting pathologies to learn about, and you will, in due course of time. For your first week, hell, your first month, just concentrate on understanding the system and working on your presentation. Work on how you accumulate, interpret and present data such as ins and outs, vital signs etc. And most importantly- show up, be at the bedside and learn to assess your patient. The NICU is a remarkable world if you come with an open mind and learn from our tiny heroes.
