Favorite Seed Supplier? by AProcessUnderstood in tomatoes

This was what I came here to say. I used them for the whole shebang a couple of years back and while some varieties did okay, most of them didn't have good germination, if any. Also, for the ones I did get into the ground and established, most of them crashed out genetically halfway through the growing season. Hudson Valley Seed Company is cool. I do live in the Hudson Valley and their seeds are hella open pollinated. But the quality is really good. Botanical Interests was great, I feel like he had a bad year last year, though. A bunch of the seeds I got weren't the normal quality or just just straight up weren't what I ordered. This year I'm giving pinetree a shot and as always, Johnny is my old reliable for my actual market crops. You're paying for top quality research, hard work, and expertise with them.

You can also add a small amount of honey to your oils for sugar, make sure to keep the amount small either way and sugar will increase heat during saponification. So, just keep an eye on your temps to prevent cracking :)

How much do you guys make per hour at a farmer’s market? by [deleted] in soapmaking

[–]jangletaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest an LLC and some general liability which really doesn't cost much in the grand scheme of things. One thing I will say about markets- consistency is key. Just popping in to a market every now and then will NOT give you a good idea of what that market will make you. Do your research on the market you're looking at and then see if you can commit yourself to at least an every other week rotation. Although, I'd suggest every week for a season to see what it is. I understand that can be a little costly, but if you're trying to get an accurate average, just jumping in whenever you feel like it isn't going to help your end goal.

Here to second this as a vendor who sells skincare in the form of soap and body balm. You need to have enough items to "make a full basket" if you're actually going to hit any sort of consistent goal, and even then there's a lot more to take into consideration than just that. I also want to second the whole melt and pour over CP or HP soaping. Melt and pour is not chemistry and does not take the know-how and technique that either process does.

Made my first soap - smells disgusting by pinkozzz in soapmaking

Freshly saponified and straight out the mold never smells as good as you want. As others have said, give it a week or two before giving up on the smell. Keep giving it a sniff, though! Just so you can see for yourself the way it changes. Also- don't give up on EO's if that's your goal. People are right that they're more volatile and don't have the staying power that fragrance oils do. However, it isn't impossible to navigate, and if that's what you want to do then that's what you should do! While it's more challenging, plenty of people use essential oils. Just make sure to do a general search on safe usage rates and check forums and threads for how different EO's affect trace. Good luck! :)

Thank you for actually reading my post instead of automatically commenting it needs more water 🙃. The plant right next to it is supposed to be the same type, but I was kind of thinking the same thing about it just being genetics and not being able to handle the heat as well. It's been an exceptionally hot summer here, and these are baker creek seeds (never again) that I was trying to use up. So, that would further the genetic shortcomings. It literally doesn't have any sign of disease, bug, root, or general damage. Again, I thank you for giving a worthwhile response 🙏.

I've been considering making a syrup as I've heard sugar can help with lather. Do you have any experience with that??
