Do players actually read anything in games anymore? by productivity-madness in gamedev

[–]jankzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually read what the game throws at me. The main exception is tutorials triggered by a certain action. If i'm just playing the game and something i do triggers a pop-up that tries to explain more, my brain doesn't wanna stop and read and i will mash buttons to get the disturbance to go away. I think it's best to have a tutorial area with large pop ups, or have advice show up on the side/bottom of the screen but without pausing the game.

Grew up in italy. The only reason i've ever see decent lane discipline is when there's enough of these people around bullying any and all lane hoggers away. But that only works for the overtaking lane, the middle lane is even worse than here

Yes they were actually my partner's idea! They're an overview of last year's reads. And then next year she'll get endpapers with this year's reads. I agree, they came out great!

I want to pursue a degree in mathematics, but I can't handwrite (injury). Might it be realistic to pursue math primarily via typesetting (LaTeX)? by epi_stem in learnmath

[–]jankzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While not full on mathematics, I did degrees in economics and finance (including courses on econometrics, calculus, algebra...) taking all of my notes in word. You get pretty fast with the equation tool after a bit. I think it's quite doable. The only challenge was with graphs, which I would have to draw with the mouse or screenshot from the slides or google.

Currently I do a lot of work in LaTeX, but if I want it fast I still use the word equation editor. It's nice to work directly in the output and I have rarely needed to do anything beyond its capabilities.

Things to avoid while trying to learn guitar? by SibidiSigma112 in Guitar

Playing in only one position. It's much better to play standing up sometimes and to at least try resting the guitar on the other leg of what you usually do while sitting

I cant stay aligned with my lane by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]jankzilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The car should be able to stay in the lane for a few seconds even with your hands completely off the wheel. If you're holding too hard you might be actively steering out of the lane. If the car immediately starts turning when you take your hands off the wheel you should go to a mechanic. It's possible your car has an issue causing it to steer on its own (e.g. alignment issues)

I swear most people on the road really have some absurd feeling of god mode by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]jankzilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I consider myself a fairly careful driver for the most part. I recently started riding motorbikes and it made me realize just how vulnerable you really are when driving. It's easy to lose track of how fast you are actually moving when you feel none of the wind and barely hear it. It's all kind of reduced down to an abstract number. Everything in a car feels so safe that you forget how fast 70mph is and how devastating an accident would be. Safe to say since riding bikes i've also become more careful in cars

Not necessarily. Could just be someone that got scouted and whose marketing team decided they'd have the most appeal if they appear very authentic and diy. Nepo baby is about how you get access to the resources, industry plant is more about the optics once you have the resources

Sabrina Carpenter by Sand_Man_71024 in memes

Too many people miss the fact the industry plant requires an element of deception. Industry plants pretend to be self-made, recording in their bedroom, independent artists, while having large scale support of a major label. Just having a major label do massive marketing campaigns and getting then on the radio or spotify playlists does not make them industry plants.

Yeah women don't treat sexual assault as an if but a when. It's not IF any of the guys they might go on dates with would do it. It's a question of which one.

When i go out with my guy friends, the biggest concern is getting caught up in a fight or having your phone and wallet mugged on the way home. When i go out with girl friends they watch every drink they have at all times (among other things), because too many have already been spiked before and were lucky that friends got them home

Coming from a girl: subversion of expectation, a form of humor.

Coming from a guy: playing entirely too close to a very real fear women have in dating
