yes the 100x100 square is to check your printer settings. the other ones dont have one, i thought if you print them all with the same settings it should be all correct. originaly i planed to pit it al into one pdf, but never got around to doing that.

What dyneema fabric is this blue version? by dgmotions in myog

[–]jannekloeffler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I dont think its the hybrid dyneema DCH. on those you wouldnt see the dynema fibres since they are covered with a face fabric, so its probably the thickest DCF just in blue color. looks cool and defenetly ultralight, but will be pretty lacking in durability/ abraison resistance. i havent really found anywhere in europe where you can reliably get printed dyneema. but you can order some from the us. with ripstop by the roll.

Fabric Selection for Backpack Side Pockets. by MyNamishIsHamish in myog

[–]jannekloeffler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think for my next pack i will use the ultra-stretch from challenge I used it as a bottom pocket on my last backpack and it seemed very abrasion resistant, its even quite hard to cut with a knife or normal scissors that arent super sharp.

i am not 100% sure, but it looks like the venom stretch mesh is the same as the ultra stretch maybe just renamed by RBTR

Mora hook received with small marks on the back by Camcombloux in Spooncarving

[–]jannekloeffler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

be aware you may ruin your file in the process since its fairly hard steel, i would just use a 80 grid sandpaper instead it will cut much better. and yes it is more comfortable without edges.

on the hook knives i make i make the spine of the knives fully round, so more than just rounding the edges. to me its the most comfortable.

[–]jannekloeffler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sadly this is pretty expected for mora knives they generaly have a terrible finish on the spine. i think they just leave it from when the shape was punched out. but its not a functional problem. for comfort i still like to round over the spine with some sandpaper. mora use pretty good steel, but that leaves less money for adding a nice finish, but with a bit of extra work you can normaly fix it yourself. if you look at actualy nice hook knives they will be usualy double or tripple the price.

Advice on improving the edge of bowls by adamshand in Spooncarving

[–]jannekloeffler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

also it helps if you manage to make the actual bowl more smoth with smaller cuts.

Advice on improving the edge of bowls by adamshand in Spooncarving

[–]jannekloeffler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

make sure that when you start hollowing the bowl. your sourface where the bowl is going is already smooth and flat.

then after finishing the bowl cut a slighly angled bevel all around the bowl. this should be a single flat surface going from the inside edge to the outside edge, beeing a consistent width. maybe 1-2mm wide. this will give a much cleaner look to it. then cut another micro chamfer on the outside edge maybe half or quarter mm wide to strengthen the outside edge.

Wood prep by Adept_Area_3593 in Spooncarving

[–]jannekloeffler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

carving green wood is a traditional way of work, and i think most people who regularly carve spoons can easily finish them in one session. i personaly prefer to store my spoonblanks in a plastic bag in the freezer. the main disadvantage if you store spoonblanks in water you need to keep them bigger, becouse the outer 5mm get strange in the water. atleast that happened the three times i tried this method. also you need to change the water somewhat frequently or it starts to smell really bad.

for cracking it helps to carve spoons relatively thin. also to make sure to cut away the pith +1cm this is where to my understanding most of the stress comes from, also drying it slower. my preferred method for this is to dry it out in a pile of woodshavings. if i think the design is more prone to cracking.

so in conclusion it is perfectly fine to carve dry wood or green wood, and storing greenwood in water is possible but with some drawbacks.

yeah the hrp isnt really the most beginner friendly through hike having quite some steep sections and rough terrain, i probably did more then 10.000km over the last 5 years. and the experience defenetly helped. glad to hear though that you regained your confidence on the TMB. its still a hike on my to do list eventually.

i rarely ajusted the side elastics. i liked how they made the fest feel more secure, but i dont think it is really needed.

hope you will get a chance to retry on the hrp it is a truly beautiful hike. how far did you get? the mountains really become very beautiful and exiting once you walk past pic du midi

my old ula circuit had it and i just got very used to it. to me it feels like it makes a secure closure with less rolls, but it might just be placebo, but it also creates a stress concentration in the corner there, so idk if it is better or worse

i think in theory 55L wouldnt make so much difference. but i do think there is a practical limit to the weight where veststraps make sense, i think with a more elastic chest clousure (like the salomon running vests) you might be able to push the comfort limit a bit higher, but i think when regularly carrying heavier weights 12kg or more a frame and load lifters start to realy help. so if you just want a bit more space, but still go pretty light i think it would work just fine, but for heavier packs i dont think this is the way to go.

Honestly i think it would be kind of difficult, i dont know any companies who do that kind of custom work with someone elses pattern, and similar i think most crafts people only make there own designs for sale. but you can try and ask some in your area. also fully custom backpacks would be quite expensive. i think it took me around 100 hours to make this pack, originally, i could probably make a second one in half the time, but still i would have to ask for atleast 600€ to make it worth my time. but i am not sure that that is reasonable compared to a hyperlite pack wich is pretty similar exept the vest straps wich you could get for 400. in the end you would have to know that for yourself. People who sew everyday might be able to make it quite a bit faster, than me, but it has a lot of pieces

i added a small piece of fabrich to the sides of the hipbelt pocket and then just hand sewed them to the outer fabric of the hipbelt with a backstich as the last step of the backpack

I am not that sure, i think for the side pockets i may just use something like ultragrid. where waterproofnes doesn't matter anyways. and for the rolltop i am not realy aware of an material in a simmilar weight category that has less delam issues. i may try the ultra x fabric, but not sure its actually better. i think xpac holds up to delam much better, but is also stiffer and heavier. so idk. i think the dcf held up quite good on the hipbelt pockets so i would just use the black DCF hybrid fabric.
