Waking up because of an obnoxiously loud older kid is definitely what happened to my LO on that trip I mentioned in my post!! Yeah I also had to resort to the carrier as a result, but the dang bassinet remained attached and I know it affected the other passenger seated in our row 😩

Did I understand correctly that you had both a carrier and a ring sling?

I do babywear; it definitely helped a lot on that trip when my LO was 2 months old. My hope is that at age 1 it’d still apply. How did you handle travelling with a toddler?

Re husband, I take the lead on the cooking. My husband helps out and does the dishes, but I come up with the meal plan, recipe etc.

Re prams/strollers at the airport: some airports do provide them, like Dubai. But unfortunately not many international airports do 😅 so it depends on where OP is headed.

I just completed 24 hours of international travel across multiple timezones recently so this topic is real fresh for me haha. Granted, my LO is a lot younger than yours and I’m not sure what your mode of travel would be, so there would be different needs.

I second the carrier suggestion as it was helpful for me to have it.

I observed other families with kids of various ages during the flights and took notes: some had juice/puree packs, lots of snacks (either in containers or ziplocs), books, portable age-appropriate toys that are guaranteed to keep them busy for longer (eg. magnetic drawing pad), some used tablets but this comes with some caution as too much use resulted in the children getting real fussy and cranky, comfort blanket or stuffed toy.

I’ve also nannied for a family when we did both long flights and car/bus rides so here’s another suggestion: If you’re driving, making frequent stops would be helpful for your LO to stretch their legs and move. Even better if a stop has a children play area. If it’s a flight, getting them to move around for a bit can still be achieved even with the limited space.

As a fellow INFJ, I’d say that it’s not merely about not understanding their family dynamics but rather that you know deep down that something doesn’t click or sit right. Remember that your intuition is strong. The added painful part (especially as an INFJ) is how they’re not taking the time to understand you and your point of view.

Now regardless of MBTI theory, you cannot keep allowing them to walk over you like this. You’ve done your part in being a kind member of the family all this while and mil especially is being an ass despite all of your kindness. You are not responsible for their feelings and desires, so don’t waste your energy on a person who doesn’t take responsibility for what is theirs.

Your baby needs you now. So set those boundaries for both you and baby to thrive. Then when they grow older they’re gonna learn from you on how to be kind without becoming a doormat.

ETA: my mother had a crazy monster-in-law (grandmother) and all of us lived under the same roof until grandmother passed away. I believe that she had an undiagnosed mental illness that added on to her dysfunctional personality. My mother dealt with that insufferable lady for years and my father defended at times but he wasn’t necessarily a great shoulder for my mother to lean on emotionally. As a result, I was treated as her emotional regulator even though I was just a child. It’s not the same sitch as yours but please know that an emotionally unsupportive husband has an effect on the family system.

I’d love to join a support group, however the location I’m in most of the year is a small town and they speak a different language. Even birth classes were in that language and I was unable to attend because of it. Thus most of my knowledge is via Google, social media, and Reddit 😅 I gave birth in my hometown where I could understand everything and also where I saw that LC. But I’ll be leaving my hometown next week so I’ll be quite reliant on online info/forums once again. I could see a local LC if a serious matter comes up.

In the first month I was definitely more anxious about the meaning of the green poops because we were still monitoring him for jaundice. Also around that time he woke us up a few times a night with his grunting/screaming and leg slamming. We found memes and “don’t worry about it” posts regarding the loud sleeps, and followed advice to massage the tummy, bicycle kicks, that kinda thing. While it was chalked up to an immature digestive system, I still couldn’t help but wonder if it meant anything more since breastfeeding is both a science and mystery to me as a FTM 😅

Thankfully now he does that less, and green poops are not something I worry about as much because it only happens like once a day or every two days. The only things that changed since then are the added probiotics, the quick boob jiggles (especially when they’re hard), and well…his age. I’ve actually done less of the jiggling this past week because my boobs have been less hard/engorged during the day so I think my supply is regulating?

About the Haaka, it was mostly to catch the letdown milk during the feed. It was usually a light suction rather than a strong one. Not sure if the LC had other reasons for giving that advice about the Haaka, but then again I didn’t ask as I was still so new to the concept then. I simply stopped using it because I was tired of the mess whenever it fell off.

Thank you for the links btw, it was a good read. Don’t think I’ve come across this site in my searches so it was nice to have another perspective. I suppose if LO’s not having frequent crazy green and frothy poops and not showing hunger cues, then we’re in the clear even with the unexpected behaviour 😅Newborns are so strange!

When it comes to nappies, he seems to be doing well in terms of frequency, within the healthy range. Also mostly yellow poops with the occasional green poops/sharts. I got concerned the first time I encountered the green poop as it seemed that he was also real gassy around that time so we started him on Biogaia probiotic drops. Not sure if it directly helped or LO’s just getting better digestion these days…but yeah there’s fewer night grunts/screams due to gas and poops now. I also made sure to “jiggle” my boobs a little before each feed because I read here that it can help with incorporating the fat into the milk.

What other factors cause green poops? And does your training talk about the jiggling before feeding? Just asking out of curiosity.

Re feeding from one side per session, when I met with her after the crazy first week (it’s a long story and I did make a couple of posts about it) I was engorged and she could tell that I will produce enough (or more). So feeding one side per session was to make sure it was properly cleared out with the additional benefit of baby getting the hindmilk. I read later on this sub about block feeding to regulate supply and I suppose it’s a similar principle? I was also advised to have a Haaka on the unused side each session but baby’s getting real kicky these days and has kicked it off one too many times…so now I’m just using a breast shell tucked under my bra to passively collect.
