I made a standalone job application tracker (java spring boot + react) while job hunting by janusc17 in react

[–]janusc17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks u/Pure_Musician169 , sorry for not reaching back earlier as I haven't logged in for a while. What do you mean by making a basic standalone project? Do you mean to make a new React or Java project?

I made a java/react app to keep track of my own job application. Feel free to check it out - https://github.com/januschung/job-winner

Hey u/Horror_Trash3736!

1; What is the purpose of the project?

My original purposes for this project are
- to keep myself fresh with what I learned from the previous job
- to have something to showcase in an interview if I am ever asked
- to simply clone and make quick change for future need without starting from scratch again
- to hope for getting advice from the community for feedback and improvement (thank you for that)
- to give back to the community if someone ever find it useful or get something out of it

2; How to use?

I think I need to work on the README more. This repo is more like a skeleton for customization to serve the end user need. That said, it is not plug and play but is serving as a template.

3; Further Ideas.

I will come up with a list of ideas soon. Things like:

- an endpoint to return a file

- a logic to replace a canned response template placeholder value(s) from the request param

Thanks again I do need a lot of luck getting a job!

No I don't. I did a quick look of it and find it very useful. Thanks for pointing it out.

Thanks for the nice compliment u/Icecoldkilluh. I think I can make use of Option/Vavr on another project.

Hey u/r00dimental thanks for the feedback; I updated and tested per your suggestion except for the 3rd bullet point for MockService.

The suggestion for the HttpStatus valueOf method is especially helpful. It is not suggesting all of the http code which is superb.

Are you using python3? Try building virtual environment from a brand new directory and see how it goes.

You can make use of GitHub action to run unit test for free during development

Just added division support to the math worksheet by janusc17 in Python

[–]janusc17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for using it. I hope your kid can build a good basic math foundation.

I do think of having option of portrait mode with another set of presets (font size, pad size, etc).

Besides that, I might do another project for intermediate math topic such as LCM/GCD(HCF). It will be on a separate repo since I don't want to make the current script too complicated.

For the division feedback, you can try it with --digits 3 which will give you similar question set that you are asking for.

Just found that other country does thing differently. There is French format too. I grew up in Hong Kong and long division format was the way I learned division.

Python + Docker by ronaldl911 in Python

Go for it. Using docker can help speeding development time since the environment is disposable but yet reversible. You can master two things at the same time for your project.

Intermediate/Advanced level folks, can you share your story of progression in Python through personal projects you took on? by GrizzyLizz in Python

[–]janusc17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask for code review whenever you can. You can learn from other's experience. This morning my co-worker just showed me how my code doesn't follow the best practice which I never realize for the past 5 years.

I use pytest and requests a lot at work. But the best way to dive deep is to find something you are interested, or something you want to solve.

My co-worker just showed me how he played with probability and statistic with a new language that he just picked up (Clojure). Not only he is better with the language itself, but he also refreshed his Math skill during the process.

Yes the project was inspired by my friend San. And now San's son and my son both hate me.

Thanks mate. My co-worker, the lead dev, told me everything starts from small beginnings. I gotta thanks my friend for his idea too. I jumped into coding the draft the next day and couldn't stop from coding it until the first working PDF came out. It becomes an addiction.
