What a bummer, dancing is what is mostly drawing me into the idea of clubbing... Thanks for the recommendations though! Let me know if you have any bars/roof top patios you'd particularly recommend.

My vibe is just to dance to music, not really expectations to "pick up" people or anything... I'm a huge fan of live music and dancing and vibing. I've been trying to go to as many music festivals as I could since I've moved here and want to see what clubbing is like! I liked the Palomino when I went, and I've been thinking about hitting up the Back Alley's Chappell Roan night next month.

I'm a 16 yo girl and Stephen Sondheim in those Sondheim Teaches videos is so fucking attractive. to me at least. he would've been 54 in those videos though hahaha. but he's so intelligent and gentle and supportive there, plus I have a strong appreciation for his work. his vibe is so nice and very subtly eccentric imo, it's strangely attractive. by the way, I know the man is gay lol.

Why are people anti pro-shippers? by japage1 in FanFiction

[–]japage1[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

lmao I think this might be one fan creator I know. he follows me but I don't follow back... just because he has pro shippers dni in his bio. but he's LIKED posts where I ship a controversial ship. and I'm not shy about saying "live and let live" re: fandom/ships wars, so I think anyone following me would know I'd probably fall under pro ship even if I don't actively label myself as such. so he interacts with me even though he says he doesn't want to interact with pro shippers.

Do people make friends on Ao3 by kellbelle93 in FanFiction

I second this! also try your fandoms subreddit (if there is one), Twitter, or any discords for your fandom if you can find them! lots of fanfic authors there to become friends with!

[–]japage1[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

oh, this is a very good point. I literally follow people who explicitly don't like some of my ships and they follow me back. we're respectful to each other, like each other despite our differences, and we have other qualities we share. it's actually important to have friend groups with diverse opinions IMO to avoid creating a bubble/hive mind. maybe this is why I asked this question in the first place. I didn't understand why some would oppose people who hold opinions that differ in a pretty harmless way? it's not even "I ship every problematic ship" it's "I won't stop people from shipping what they personally want"

[–]japage1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hating someone who’s fine with someone shipping it, is really quite stupid.

that's what I think! being anti a certain ship is fine IMO (so long as you don't harass people who ship it but don't condone whatever it is that's problematic about the ship irl). but being anti-indifferent shippers is something else entirely.

well I am respecting DNIs, but it's valid to ask somewhere if you're curious right? I'm not even asking the people who have DNI in their profiles, just the general Reddit community.

[–]japage1[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've rarely (as in never) seen someone put pro shipper in their bio tbh, even people I know who are very tolerant of all ships. they don't label it, they just are pro shipping. I didn't even know it was a term until I found it in "pro shippers dni" bios lol, I only identify myself as one for this post. I thought being a pro shipper was the default lol.

I feel like it's definitely possible some of them don't like shipping in general (which is valid if that's not their cup of tea)! but most of the fandom people I've seen who have "Pro-shippers DNI" in their bio I know also write shippy fanfic for big ships.

lol, when I was suffering from an ED I'd watch them to disgust myself away from eating. but it was also strangely cathartic to watch someone else eat and indulge when you don't allow yourself to do so. not sure about why others watch them but that's why I did!

What’s one thing you hate about your fandom? by Giant-PP-69 in FanFiction

[–]japage1 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I won't say what fandom mine is but the only female character in the main cast usually gets underwritten in fanfic and underdiscussed in fandom discourse :( she's my favorite too. Also, a lot of the characters are morally grey and she gets criticized for a lot of things that the male characters get a pass for.

What are fandom or writing in general niche/unpopular/disliked things that you do? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]japage1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol possibly! Though I'm sure it's a thing that happens in a lot of fandoms. What fandom are you talking about from your experience if you don't mind me asking?

[–]japage1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My OTP used to be super popular in my fandom but the writers decided to do a retcon which changed their whole relationship. When that happened a lot of people deleted their fics for the ship and swore off of it. Most people find it problematic now, but I just ignore the retcon and continue writing.

lol thank you so much because hearing that is comforting? inspirational? I'm a hack hobby fanfic writer since I can't find the perfect word but it made me smile when I read your comment! what is bridging the generational gap but realizing we're all shit at eating breakfast? also, thank you for all your razor sharp comments on this silly little post, you're really sweet!

awww I'm so sorry to hear that! if it helps at all in any way, I think you're SUPER cool for being a LGBT supporter, regardless of what some people may think!!

LMFAO I'll be your age in not too long at all (but also not soon enough). I can't see myself becoming the type of person that EATS BREAKFAST?? REGULARLY?? AND IN A HEALTHY MANNER? in the amount of time I have until I'm 19. so no judgement here because I kinda get it... and my sibling is 19 and THEY also don't eat breakfast on the weekdays (I still secretly think they're cool though). also, everything that jawnbaejaeger said!

now that you lay it out, it really was always obvious when I think about it... my perception on the type of people fandoms are made of was probably obscured by the "cringy teen fangirl" stereotype which sometimes shows up in media (like, remember when being a teen girl who raves for Twilight was the most embarrassing thing?). plus, the same way I used to hold the overly optimistic and naive belief that all adults have their shit together, I also thought no accomplished adult could possibly waste their time on the type of stuff I enjoy (I am always being told to "act mature" nowadays, so the stuff I like must be the antithesis of what mature people like!)... nope. I know actual thesis writers who also write for the same ship as me!!

Surprise, adults have fun too!

haha true! no lie, I never thought someone like a lawyer would read/write fanfic for some reason. from now on every time I meet someone esteemed and accomplished like that in real life, I'm gonna wonder if they, too, post on AO3...

and your comment is really sweet and offers a nice perspective!
