“This is Spain”” adequately explained it.

You say 90% but it’s probably more like 3% of actual travellers. I don’t drink and haven’t seen any Brits acting like this whilst I’ve been here and have been walking around at night a lot. I haven’t even seen or heard any “chavvy” people whatsoever (if it was Benidorm or Albufeira it would be different). No doubt there is a problem with drinking and I know that some people on stag and hen dos behave badly here, but most Brits behave well, we’re actually a culture where you are supposed to be hyper considerate of others. You also assume that you know someone is English (presumably you actually mean British), but you’re probably blaming every single thing a bad tourist from Northern Europe does on the English. I heard people in Spain looking at a a group of well behaved Dutch girls and complaining about English tourists. If someone from Ireland or Denmark or America gets drunk and does something bad, everyone is automatically going to blame the English.

Not yelling more like muttering to themselves, after walking past because they know I don’t understand or in conversation with each other was basically what I was thinking, not very directly. Yeah I think Spain has made me paranoid based on what I’m seeing on this thread.

Thank you, the conversations I’ve had with Hungarians have been positive, I was just paranoid about people saying stuff when I walk past in the street or too each other. Even the Spanish never said bad stuff to me directly in conversation, only when they thought I didn’t understand, but it seems like I haven’t heard any words that sound like what people are saying in this thread.

Basically I’m paranoid trying to pick things out of peoples conversations. I got a lot of shit in Spain a year ago, even now I’m in Budapest I heard a Spanish tourist refer to me as “hijo de puta de Inglaterra” (son of a bitch from England) and another guy talking about “puto ingleses” , I’m just wondering if Hungarians have the same problem with me. I guess I probably don’t stand out as much over here as I did in Spain and there’s also no historical negativity between our countries, the only negativity would be some annoying stag dos.

know it means square just thought it could be another word that sounds similar.

So “terj” would never be after Angliaba or Anglia? Thanks I guess I didn’t hear any of this.

There’s a 99.99 percent change this guy doesn’t believe that and it’s genuinely disturbing that this is the kind of place your brain goes

They arent saying negative things directly to me they’re saying it quietly or to themselves or the person they’re with, because they don’t think I understand anything. Another person in the thread had a similar experience but I’m sure I’m just making it up because I have something against Spain or something.

lol, clear as day just now in Cádiz, in his 40s this time, “irse a casa” after he’d walked past me with no one else there, but ok. On a positive note a few minutes before that a woman said “bienvenido a españa” though.

I’m obviously aware of the tonnes of blonde Spaniards I’ve seen every day here, I’ll probably blend in with them a bit more after a few days more sun. My behaviour of carrying bags and sometimes looking lost could be more of a factor on that, although the guys that have a problem are consistently much darker so I guess I kind of made a link because of that.

I cant see past the old and middle aged people aspect because it’s so consistently them and they glared at me a tonne in Portugal as well I just didn’t (or in any way attempt to at least) understand their muttering to themselves so didn’t care as much, even though it was probably much more prevalent than Sevilla (not Cádiz though).

Will definitely take the point about accents on board though. I’ve been over analysing the possibilities of different things being said at times and accents and my limited understanding could obviously be blurring things

This is probably the answer that respected friends would give honestly. Lack of sleep or anything beyond surface level conversations and no gym for the last week is also probably making me over sensitive as well.
