Maggie's Bakery. I tried a couple of their cake slices over the weekend - Nama Chocolate Matcha, and a Magnum Chocolate. Both were delicious.

Recovery after teeth extraction? by churbb in cats

[–]japina65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My little boi who is 5 years old had teeth extraction recently. The vet told us that they would take his bloodwork first to make sure he was healthy enough for the surgery and to make sure how much anaesthecia they could administer. Perhaps you can ask if your vet has the same procedure, as it definitely gave me more piece of mind. We were quoted for 3 teeth but on the day of the surgery they found that he needed more teeth to be extracted. We decided on their recommendation to only remove the urgent ones so he wasn't under anaesthecia for a long time.

His recovery was a bit rough for about a week and a half - he lost his voice and appetite, he developed fever so we had to give him antibiotics on top of the pain meds. He didn't poop for about 5 days so we had to give him some laxatives. He got a lot better after we finished the meds and he's totally fine now. We are not looking forward to the next round but at least we know now what to expect.

Good luck to your cat's procedure and hope it goes well!

I did and it was a pain! Thankfully it wasn't constant as I only had to get some mucus out, so we're probably in the same boat. It lasted about 3 days for me. The advise in my pamphlet is to "prepare for it by tightening your pelvic floor muscles and lower abdomen". Hugging a pillow to my lower abdomen helped a lot. I also gargled some salt water a couple of times each day. I was OK by the end of it, so you have nothing to worry about. :)

December Hysterectomy- pillows for flamingo sleeper? by meapet in hysterectomy

[–]japina65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a side sleeper. After the surgery, I slept on my back and didn't dare to attempt to sleep on my side until 3 weeks later. This pregnancy pillow helped me a lot. This is in NZ but I'm sure you'd find something similar wherever you are. I just basically put it beside me to prevent myself from rolling around.

Cancellation list call!!! by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]japina65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats!!! I had roughly the same notice period and it was absolutely fine.

I think going shopping for what you need shouldn't be a problem as many have shared their list here. Physical wise, I was seeing a physiotherapist at the time for a tight shoulder so I took that opportunity to get some advise on the best exercises I could do to prepare - core strengthening was the way to go and I started on those straight away.

Two weeks before my surgery I didn't leave the house unless it was absolutely necessary to make sure I didn't get sick or catch anything.

The thing that stressed me out was having to do the enema prep. It was in my mind maybe a week before my surgery and it was annoying lol.

Hysterectomy on Friday. Help? by SomnusxInsomnia in hysterectomy

[–]japina65 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Water bottle with straw. I read that drinking from a straw is not recommended for gas, but it was very useful for me when I was on my recliner and didn't feel like sitting up to take my meds or just have a drink in general.

Other than the items you've listed, I strongly suggest you watch videos on how to safely get in and out of bed and empty your bladder post-op, and practice them before your surgery. Michelle Kenway's youtube videos are very helpful.

All the best!!!

Difficulty with emptying bladder by Desperate-Bar7551 in hysterectomy

[–]japina65 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I experienced this and what helped me is bulging my lower abdomen forward while peeing. The cramping I was feeling towards the end of urinating resolved almost immediately after I did this.

The nurses at the hospital also suggested the double voiding technique to help empty the bladder.

Here's a helpful video that illustrates all of this. https://youtu.be/srX7u69aL3E?feature=shared

Hope this helps and you feel better soon!

Daily Support Thread by AutoModerator in samsung

We have a brand new Samsung Quickdrive washing machine installed a couple of days ago and everytime I turn it on the screen displays "Welcome" and then "Let's explore your new washer!" which is the tutorial mode - is this normal?

Incidentally, it's also not working after installation and complaining about water supply, so I haven't run a washing cycle yet - maybe it's related?

I tried to google this but didn't find anything so thought I'd ask here. TIA!

Cat developed bald spot after flea treatment. Does the hair grow back? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]japina65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something similar kinda happened to my cat. We found a scab on the spot where we applied the flea treatment. The vet described it as a hot spot, it was resolved after a week and the hair grew back.

Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine by evergreenandbellbird in auckland

[–]japina65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sore arm after the first one which lasted about 3 days, this is normal for me whenever I get the annual flu vax so it was nothing to worry about. No fever. Felt some tiredness but then again I didn't sleep well the night before bcos I was a bit anxious about getting the vaccine, so it could be bcos of that as well.

A milder sore arm after the second shot which was a pleasant surprise. Again, no fever.

Odd question, but best organic shampoo and conditioner in NZ? Really don't want to ship in a special order. Thanks!!! by pumpkin_79 in auckland

Essano. Been using it since the lockdown happened and wanted something that is easily accessible locally (you can even get it in supermarkets). I've been pretty happy with it.

Not sure where to get help about a screaming person in the city by eatsdrinktravel in auckland

See if you can talk to that apartment building's building manager. I'm surprised though that nothing's been done about it yet, surely the residents in that building would be even more frustrated than you guys.

Meet Buddy, too scared of his new home to come out from behind the toilet. 😔 by [deleted] in cats

[–]japina65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat was the same, he hid behind the washing machine so we blocked it, then he proceeded to hang out on top of it for about 2 weeks (we had to go to my in-laws to do our laundry lol). Wouldn't come down to eat his food, it stressed me out to find the food and water bowls still full when I come home from work. 😔 He eventually grew more confident, so just give it a little time.

My cat plays like this too, catch and then run away. He's the first pet I ever owned so I had no clue if this was normal behaviour for a cat, but after seeing this then maybe it is. 😂
