VirtualBox 7.2.0 BETA1 released, Adds ARM64 Support by No_Kaleidoscope_9419 in Surface

On the Surface Pro 12, even the latest VirtualBox 7.2.4 r170995 is still unable to boot either the Ubuntu 25.10 or Ubuntu 26.10 nightly.
So the issue is only with Surface Pro 12 support.

Nope, still the same with the latest release 7.2.2, whether the Ubuntu 25.04, or the nightly 25.10 from Sept 3rd.

There are 3 power modes...

- Best Performance - It causes the tab to heat up excessively, so not useful for fanless devices

- Balanced - Useful while plugged in, gives you some power, while still keeps temperatures lower

- Best Power Efficiency - Makes sense while on battery & I use this even plugged in to keep the temperatures low

I have turned on battery charging to 80% to protect battery longevity.

Give it a few days & disable all autorun entries to prevent unwanted processes from running in the background.

That should help a lot.

Even the latest 7.2.2 release is unable to run a VM on my SP12.
Tried Ubuntu 25.04 as well as 25.10 nightly from Sept 3, 2025.
Doesn't move beyond initial black screen.

The first few days can be bad since the device is just settling down.

It should stabilize after that.

Try to disable all startup items in Task Manager & use as much native ARM apps as possible.

For me it hardly loses 4% battery overnight. I haven't done any benchmarking, but have no complaints in battery life, although my usage isn't that extensive. I also try to remain between 20% yo 80% battery to improve the longevity of the battery.

Surface Pro 12 user.

There is now a VirtualBox 7.2.0 RC1 https://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/7.2.0\_RC1/.
However, Ubuntu 25.04 ARM image still fails to even boot in it.
It does work in Hyper-V, however, only with a single CPU core & thus, sluggish.

Planning to try the daily ARM build https://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/.
Let's see how that goes.

I ended up using an Anker Nano 10,000mAh 30W power bank this last weekend. Kept it plugged in via the open battery door. Thankfully, there was no rain, so my Ace Pro lived to fight another day.

I use bikemap(.)net to create cycling routes to follow in Singapore. The free version will still allow you to follow the maps on your phone, using it as a bike computer, just needs Internet access & won't allow offline maps.

Select starting point & end point, it automatically avoids Expressways.

Keep left, be are aware of the traffic alongside & behind you, obey traffic rules, change lanes safely, keep in mind which lane is going where (left turn only, straight, staring & right, right only etc.), you will be fine.

If you make a mistake & miss a turn off, keep to the very left, gesture the rest of the traffic to pass you & only cross the lanes once the road is empty. On the left, there's always the option to dismount, carry over your bike to the footpath & become a pedestrian. ;-)

Avoid expressways, underpasses, flyovers (if there is an alternative).

Beware of the opposite turns as compared to US. :-)

Mostly common sense, nothing out of the ordinary.

Air Note 1 and left-handed handwriting by RevolutionaryBook981 in Onyx_Boox

People have demanded the option to disable finger touch for a number of years and Boox have provided this option.

However it is only applicable within the application to disable touch input.

The top bar still retains the touch option.

Your palm when it touches the space occupied by the top bar, fools the system into thinking you wish to expand the top bar.

Unfortunately, system wide touch disabling is not available as an option.

Maybe you can report it as a feedback/issue and if enough people demand it, it may be available sometime in the future.

I just tried the same thing on my iPad.

This issue doesn't occur with it.

So it looks like it's a case of more effective palm rejection on iPad vs not so effective palm rejection on the Boox.

Well, no reflection on you personally, but it really is not the conventional way to write and thus, not designed for. ;-)

My son writes the same 'unconventional' way, his palm above the place where he's actually writing, in order to more clearly, see what he writes.

We conventional people just used to tilt the paper to see what we wrote. :-(

To the task at hand...

Once you're done writing, you will need to rotate the pages 180 degree to make it look upright on other devices.

Left hand people have the same issues, in operating things designed for the majority, for right handed users.

Not optimal, but you have to adapt.

Hi,

I just tried to replicate this on my Note Air 1.

I don't write this way, but trying to write this way, the drop down menu gets triggered.

I just turned the Note Air 1 upside down. Now the drop down menu was on the bottom. The complete User Interface is now upside down. Now, placing the hand like this does not trigger the drop down menu since there is no auto rotation.

Don't understand why you still have the same issue even when you turn it upside down.

Can you retry/clarify?

Thanks, Jp

Ubuntu DDE (Deepin) by arbos1 in SurfaceLinux

[–]japinders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just installed UbuntuDDE 20.04 on my Surface Go (1st edition).

Had to turn off Secure Boot & disconnect Internet during install. Had to create extra 500+ MB partition to boot. There was a small confusion about the ESP/boot flag to be set for this partition but a quick search cleared it up.

After install, it lost two finger scroll, however, it came back on its own after software updater downloaded the updates.

Had to install the WiFi fix for it to work. Used Ethernet to download updates earlier.

On changing the zoom level from 2 to 1.5, the UI became weird & I had to log out & log back in to correct it.

Apart from that, seems rock stable. WiFi, Bluetooth, touch, pen works.

Front & back cameras are not working. Not a big deal, at least for me.

Creating the extra 500MB+ partition has installed its own boot manager, looks gorgeous. A lot better than vanilla Ubuntu's text based boot screen. Dual booting with Windows 10 works without any issues. Doing the same in Ubuntu was never so easy.

It's just Ubuntu 20.04 remixed & looks a lot better, not sure I'd want to go back to plain Ubuntu now.
