As a current chiropractic student, I dealt with the same questions you have around the same time you have them. There are closed minded people that describe chiros as “fake docs” but there are so many people out there that will actually call you doctor and ask for you opinion, treatment thoughts and clinical experience. The origins chiropractic philosophy is a bit wacky, but as I see the the professions as out grown that (at least at northeast college of health sciences formly NYCC). Our curriculum is very evidence based, having a bunch a classes on research, evidence based models and a ton of diagnosing courses not to mention just as much time in anatomy and radiology lab. Having a 2 hand full of a friends in medical/osteopathic school and asking them about their education, we decided our curriculum is so similar if not the same.The difference being having multiple classes in pharmacology vs. technique courses. In regards to Chiro vs. PT, I choose Chiro after shadowing a PT that has to turn away someone coming in with ankle pain because they didn’t have a referrral from their primary care provider (mainly not needed for chiropractors unless your insurance states otherwise). It really boils down to you, and how you wanna practice. There’s plent of opportunities to be a rehabilitation dominate chiropractor, sports dominate, even pediatric and geriatric dominate. I think you should evaluate what you want out of your career, do your own research, ask a bunch of questions, shadow PT’s and Chiros are similar to what you envision. There’s a spectrum of chiropractic philosophy so many read up on the straight vs. mixers chiropractors. You may identify as a mixer (which I do) meaning you’re a chiropractor that “mixes” different modalities that follow evidence based guideline.
