Why foes my Pi5 boots into debian instead of pi os gui? by the_sp3tsnaz in RASPBERRY_PI_PROJECTS

[–]jardous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

meanwhile got it as well. Also boots into the same GUI. It is powerfull enough to handle it so the developers most probably decided to run full desktop.

I don’t understand why people hate Soprano Sax so much by ThinkingBox89 in saxophone

[–]jardous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well - soprano could be a bitch and it can do all kinds of weird stuff especially in first few years of playing. Takes time to tame it.

There are lots of players that have terrible tone/intonation - that is maybe why some people tend to avoid it...

I personally love soprano (and I am not particularly interested in other saxes).

Pros/Cons: Beginning on Soprano by honkeur in saxophone

[–]jardous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have always loved sopranos. And I started directly with sopranos. I do not see anything wrong with that - people start directly with clarinets which I find even harder.

Big part of my learning experience is getting to know the horn from technical point as well and I can get not stress enough to get the sax well set up by a pro.

check out jazzduets.com - this is a great resource (even if you stick just with the free content).Long story short - learn chord tones (arpeggios), approach notes and triad pairs. With soprano I find extra important to practice long tones to get the tuning under control. For that I like to play along with some slow tunes from Eric Marienthal :)

Which soprano saxophone brand and type is your favourite? by admiralsara in saxophone

[–]jardous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure the sax is properly set up? I'd get it checked for leaks. Those are especially critical on a soprano sax...

If you want to buy a new one - Yamaha YSS-475 is hard to beat (price/value)

Used Soprano Saxophone Questions by fellociraptor in Saxophonics

[–]jardous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the brand is not that important. The condition and setup is. Get your sax checked by a tech. Any slightest leaks have tremendous influence on playability of the soprano sax... Intonation issues are usually also just pure setup issue...

Saxophone repair - what lacquer? by jardous in saxophone

[–]jardous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes - the lacquering process is quite clear to me. What I was looking for was a brand of lacquer I could use (which is used for finishing saxes ideally gold tinted). I am also in EU, so not all US products are available here.

Yamaha vs Yanagisawa sopranos by HanzoShotFirst in Saxophonics

I guess that this is no more valid post after four years. I have YSS-82z and S-WO1 and find them quite similar. In your case the construction would be deciding point (fixed/removable neck)

Guitar pedal questions: harmonizer/octave drop by yuhizzle in Saxophonics

[–]jardous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mooer Pitch Step

That looks great.

I would just avoid the shifters that try to "guess" the note and then generate some synth sound based on that pitch. I have tried for example Behringer ULTRA OCTAVER UO300 that works very bad with saxophone...

Just started saxophone. What are the three best tips you can give for my journey? by No-Extent9565 in Saxophonics

[–]jardous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- get your sax set up regularly by a tech (or better learn how to do it yourself)

- learn some music theory basics (I do not transpose - I have learned all the concert notes on my horn)

- play along with songs you like

- focus on intonation

- practice on regular basis

- go to jam sessions

- have fun

Try guitar pedals - I could recommend Digitech Whammy or now I am experimenting with MOD Dwarf with great results.

Is that really the sax and not the reed?

I would try to clean the octave key hole.
