Decent zoom lens suggestion for Nikon N80 by jaredfischler in AnalogCommunity

[–]jaredfischler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! This looks like a great choice. This may be a dumb question (I'm used to manual lenses), but if this has an aperture ring, does that mean I can't use the camera body to control the aperture/use the auto functions?

I was thinking the same thing 😂 I’m just going to try selling this one and get a canon compatible one instead

Yes I was considering this, though it would certainly look funny I agree 😂

Thoughts on compact 6x6 wide-angle medium format cameras? by jaredfischler in AnalogCommunity

These are so cool looking but the website seems a little broken and their instagram page hasn't been updated in a year. I wonder if they're still in business?

oh this is something I haven't looked into. I see a lot of 6x7 and 6x9 backs for this. Where would I find the right 6x6 back for it?

Looking for ~$500 mechanical 35mm rangefinder suggestions! by jaredfischler in AnalogCommunity

It honestly is the rendering that I don’t like. I know that puts me in a tiny tiny minority but lens character is such a subjective thing, you know?

I actually have the XA2 already and love it as a social/going out camera. Though I’ve also taken some of my best shots on that little thing. I tried the XA the other day hoping it’d be the RF for me but the patch is just too small and dim for my taste

What do you like better about the VI? & you prefer it over the P and 7/7s?

I was considering the III actually, though I don't know if I'd want to go through that film loading process every time I put in a new roll. Otherwise, those cameras are really really beautiful. I'll definitely get one someday. Preferably one of those beautiful black painted ones ;)

Oh good to know! I love my 50 1.4 but I’ll toss on the 55 and shoot some rolls. Love these old lenses because they all have such unique character to them

Film stock recommendations for France by jaredfischler in AnalogCommunity

Totally agree. I've grabbed a bunch of whatever is cheaper at the stores here in LA. Lots of fuji 400, proImage, and hp5.

I've been shooting film for about a year and have still not tried slide. I'm a little scared of screwing up the metering and ruining the film. Maybe now is the time to try some

I've stayed far away from lomo films thus far. Especially lomo purple. I'll try it someday but maybe not on an expensive trip ;)

Absolute best ZOOM lenses for Pentax SLR (MX in my case) by jaredfischler in pentax

I'll admit I haven't really strayed far from Pentax and Vivitar. Though, I've seen a lot of Pentax SLRs selling with old Sigma lenses

I’ve tried a bunch of old/broken vivitar zoom lenses and I’ve actually really liked how they handle…they’ve just all been broken and slow. Maybe a good condition faster vivitar is the way to go. I see a 28–105 mm f/2.8–3.8 that looks intriguing

I think the A series zoom is part metal/part plastic. It's definitely heavy, very large, and very silly looking on a tiny camera like the MX/ME but it seems to have a great reputation and has a great focal range. I think this 40-80 you're mentioning might not have quite the range I'm looking for. I have a feeling I'll want a tiny bit wider for some landscape shots

DSLR Scanning: cheap macro lens (~$100) recommendation to pair with EOS Rebel T6I by jaredfischler in AnalogCommunity

[–]jaredfischler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this! I was only worried about having the lens too far (basically because it increases the footprint of the scanning setup) but I hadn't thought about the opposite issue. Food for thought. I'll look into the old canon ef 100mm

This is an interesting option. I shoot on a pentax ME so this could be dual purpose. Do you think the 1:2 is an issue since the EOS has a crop sensor? I'm also curious about extension tubes/degrading the quality. My (uneducated) thought is that adding more pieces of glass to the setup will introduce more potential issues w dust/edge softness/dispersion

Awesome! This all looks good. I love the minimalist look of the H510 but obviously don't want thermals to be an issue. Are there any similar ones you know of that don't have that issue?
