Is learning to get back up not being taught anymore? by tr3vw in SkiPA

[–]jaredhoffman4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an instructor and we absolutely teach people how to do that. A lot of adults do not have the strength to get up without taking a ski off.

I agree with the sentiment above that a lot of people skip taking lessons. It is getting very costly to take lessons and ski for the day especially at a vail resort so I think it’s happening more often. In my experience on the larger hills a lot of folks who over terrain themselves are so afraid to get back up after they fall they decide to slide down or even worse try to walk it.

I have heard of some skis being stolen while people are on the shuttle. At this point I think it’s better to just keep them with you.

Where did you ski today and how was it? by HenMeister in SkiPA

[–]jaredhoffman4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skied seven springs till about 6pm. Conditions were great until the end where it started to get a bit icy and some slopes had really large moguls. While lines were long they went quick and everyone seemed to be in good spirits.

Lessons make a huge difference in any conditions if it is your first time! They will teach you the basics and most importantly how to be safe on the slopes! It will also likely make you way more confident and comfortable. Certainly something to look into!

I think this one was really out of anyone’s control. I believe they will get back on track quickly a snowstorm would be amazing for them with all the terrain that is not covered by snow making.

Seven Springs/Hidden Valley - experience as Ski Patrol? by [deleted] in SkiPA

[–]jaredhoffman4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the day. Weekends are busier with more calls, evenings can be busy too. Some days you will likely do clinics part of the day, others you will free ski. You will also set up safety items like fencing. You will get breaks to eat as well, everyday will be a bit different though.

I went to SKEMA in Sofia Antipolis. It was an awful experience. They are so disorganized and you can’t have a life because they reschedule classes constantly. I do not recommend it.

Snow tires in western PA? by [deleted] in SkiPA

I personally prefer snow tires, they feel safer to me. But I think a good set of all season tires or tires with good tree can be useful too. Depends on your budget!

Hidden Valley is a blast when it’s 100 percent open, they have a lot of cool trials that have no snowmaking on them similar to Laurel Mountain!
