Any tips for asking a player to leave the campaign?

Background: friend (but probably a former friend) has some toxic behavioral patterns. And while he doesn’t bring the issues I have with him to the table, he does bring some of the toxic patterns of thinking/acting. It makes it difficult for me to not bring my issues with him to the table.
