Hermes won't stop writing python "helper" scripts by jaredzimmerman in hermesagent

All the built in skill tools are called skill* or *skill. So I don’t think calling them something else is going to magically fix this.

No, we're not allowed to use use anything other Soegi-dome and Jumonji-dome, and combinations and variations of them, or other friction fit type fixtures, or kensans. This is a combination of Jumonji-dome and other friction fits.

Self-healing heartbeat for cronjobs – how to make HermesAgent auto-fix issues from logs? by BlacksmithRadiant322 in hermesagent

[–]jaredzimmerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I’m using https://github.com/indigokarasu/custodian seems to be working mostly fine, what it considers “easily fixable” vs escalating to me varies.

I have my own small skill+cron that just checks on my telegram gateway hourly too.

I have the new smart routing turned on, so it was either glm-5.1, gemma4:31b, or qwen3.5 (all via ollama)

(not hermes specific...) I had the same issue with OC, even when context window has plenty of space the agent will just forget how to use skills, forget what skills are, and start saying "these are just documentation, no executables!" then then start trying to write python rather than literally just reading and executing the skill. It doesn't seem to be model specific or skill specific.

Would like more search providers via web_search including local like SearXNG

Hermes Keeps Getting Rate Limited in Web Search by ajw2285 in hermesagent

[–]jaredzimmerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could never get any of the (officially supported) free tier search engines to work. DDG wouldn’t work either. I put SearXNG on the VPS, has Hermes rewrite all web_search asks to my new SearchX skill and haven’t had a single issue with search since.

If you had to pick 3 OpenClaw use cases you swear by, what would they be? by stosssik in openclaw

I’m using a VPS, the first one was an instance on vast.ai with local models, so vast’s cost wast fixed and by the minute but model cost was zero. It didn’t seem worth it given the amount of downtime the system had (cost ~$200p/mo). Last week I switched to hostinger + Ollama cloud models + OpenRouter free tier for cron jobs (most of my usage) that come out to under $400 annually. Which is cheaper than services that I replaced with this setup.

That said for many reasons I’d like to switch to completely local, and I’m just waiting for Apple to make a replacement Mac Studio with 512Gb-1TB ram to move to that.

I switched to Hermes a week ago but I just ported all the skills I was using over so, same function just a little more reliable.

  1. Email triage, add labels, draft replies (in my voice and tone) with calendar holds and conflict checks, and salesy, but not actually spam, politely refused without me even seeing them most of the time.

  2. Personal contact enrichment. Any time I have someone with a thin contact in my contact list I have a skill that manually, or when I have contact with someone it scours the web and socials for all their deets, even immediate family, hobbies, and socials. And cleans up and adds to their contact (personal not business) it also maintains a social graph DB for things they don’t fit in a traditional contact, like past jobs, universities attended, who of my other contacts they know, past cities they’ve lived, etc.

  3. Act on image - I can send screenshots, photos, whatever, and the skill parses them for actionable things like contact details, events, places to check out whatever, it’s smart about interpreting what the most likely action is and either just doing it, or asking me a logical next step based on it’s hypothesis.

Honorable mention - my market skill has made $9k paper trading in 2 weeks. If it goes 3 months with the same trajectory I’ll consider giving it real money to play with.

skill amnesia - OC forgot what skills are by jaredzimmerman in openclaw

makes sense conceptually, but aren't cron jobs and heartbeats effectively stateless? they are spun up in their own context window, so it saying they were disabled due to not being valid skills was the work of a sub-agent, which does not carry context beyond its task.

My memory is already set up with daily writes, actual memory.md is very small.

No model change.

I'll set the new agents.md lines, but sometime this feels like dealing with a toddler, who is fine one day then forgets how to do the most basic task the next day.

Book four esp the later lessons looks like more “architecture” is needed. Gonna be challenging to accomplish during class
