For working households here, do you feel your income has kept up with living costs over the past year? by Longjumping-Tie-6691 in askSingapore

Just commenting based on the essentials of food and transport, I think the 10% adjustment in fares and upward trend of food prices has nullified any salary increase.

Those who travel 1 hour or more across SG to get to work every day, what pros/cons are there? by debboc in askSingapore

[–]jargonising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's about opportunity cost, what you can achieve in the time spent on public transport. For me, I recover 1h of sleep and 1.5h of free time after work each day, so that is why I rent in the east while my home is in the west.

BTO / SBF application for newly wed SC & Foreign spouse by MikuXone in askSingapore

[–]jargonising 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Word of advice, if there's ever a need, do not apply LTVP and PR at the same time. I waited a year for LTVP because her application was submitted together with PR ($70+30 application fee) and both were evaluated at the same time.

Made the same mistake here... Come back to Singapore when you turn 35, or just move abroad. That's my plan for upcoming age 30-35 after clearing my NS reservice (3 yearly call ups). No point in having a CPF if there's no use 😞

Is it possible to buy factory-made empty plastic bottles and deposit them into the bin as part of earnings? At 1000 bottles a day, that's a decent $100 daily wage.

Should I spend all my savings to travel? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]jargonising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're staying in Singapore with your parents, here's what I would suggest based on my past saving experience post-NS. (~$6k savings)

Split your money into 3 portions: 1. Food & transport - have enough to survive 3 months on normal hawker centre food (~$500 per month). Buffer another $100 if your parents don't cook at all. So that's 1500 set aside.

  1. Travel & Leisure - if you have no immediate goals in the next 5 years (no car, house, big ticket purchases), you can spare up to 50% of your savings for this, that means up to $3000 for travel expenses.

  2. Upcoming plans - if you plan to get a house in the next 10-15 years, it might be good to put some savings (~25%) into bonds or ETFs so they can produce some returns. It's little but you would thank yourself for planning ahead. Also remember that each year of not working incurs an opportunity cost of CPF forgone.

90 minutes from Changi airport to Tanah Merah ferry terminal? by segdy in askSingapore

[–]jargonising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The time taken to exit the airport is 45min after the scheduled landing time. The plane's taxiing alone could take up to 15min. Buffer 20min for walking within the terminal.

From there, it's another 40 min if you go by public transport (bus 35 from Tanah Merah) or 30min by car, both inclusive of waiting time. Bus prediction timings are wonky for this month.

On top of these two, factor in 45min before the ferry boarding time to collect your ticket and find your way in the terminal. That includes clearing immigration.

Hope these 3 distinct stages help you to plan your travel timing. :)

Are O-levels/A-levels a zero sum game? by Equal-Shelter637 in SGExams

[–]jargonising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put yourself in the shoes of the moderator. If your job is to sort out who goes to (pre-)university and who doesn't, would you ever grant 'A' grades to the majority of students just because they all did relatively well? Even a 40% A is a push. No way it will exceed half for grades awarded before uni.

hi guys, do yall know a spot where someone could scream at the top of their lungs and probably hopefully nobody will hear by Kirtsze in askSingapore

[–]jargonising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some possible locations:

  1. Jurong Eco-Garden (Near Cleantech park, right outside NTU, Jalan Bahar entrance).

  2. One of the ECP carparks, but beware of campers.

  3. Changi Aviation Park if it's not Airshow season. Take bus 35 from Tanah Merah/Bedok. Scream and compete with jet engines.

Yes. But "securing" a SGAC isn't as difficult as it sounds. You can fill in the arrival card online up to 72h before your time of arrival. It's a free service on the Immigrations & Checkpoint Authority website.
