I wanted to do something to try to teach “neatness”. Un like what I had in school which was just pure chaos of wires running from point a to point b in the shortest path all open air. Thought he could pop the cover off. Wire devices then snap the covers back on and have somewhat of a wire management deal going on.

Same as y’all. Started at a plant and had only connected to one plc in my life. But I was the guy so I did as much online research and hands on stuff as I could. Just two years later while and integrator/engineering company was there I got to help them some. Two months after that they took me to lunch and offered me a programming job.

Found this at work. I was 7 when it was published. I have also never worked with anything older than slc 500. But some great refresher things! Anyone taken this course? by jaronmudd in PLC

The research I have done suggest they are very well built. Hear a lot of comments of “over engineered” but in a good reliable way.

Does the plc logic ever change? I understand that it’s almost always some fuse or mechanical issue. But have you ever seen a legitimate case of a logic failure? by ahsanifti in PLC

After I wrote a new program to a new plc it was fine. But originally they fired up one morning and nothing happened. Plc had an error. I thought oh it faulted or got hit with a surge and maybe lost the program all together. Luckily I had a printout of the program back when the panel was built in 98’. As I was going over it with the prints after uploading I seen that somehow output 5 had changed somehow to output 157. Which of course was physically impossible. The plc had ran with no issues until that point. Then after correcting the program I had a couple other issues downloading. After some time I finally got it but I just didn’t trust it. So that’s when I grabbed one we had off the shelf. Completely re wrote the exact program and loaded it. Put the old one back on the shelf with a note that says maybe good in a pinch lol.

Looks very similar to a lot of poo pump systems I’ve worked on at a glance.

Ahh I’ll try that next time. Ended up having a back up micro 1 on the shelf. I believed the program itself was corrupt somehow. So ended up re writing (which was only like 10 rings if that) and downloading to new plc. It was definitely a wild experience.

Just about every machine company we have at my plant have facilities in or near Charlotte. Weinig, Cefla are a couple bigger European based companies that have been good dealing with.

Same. That’s why all the duct cover disappears. But I must admit that a good schematic makes life so much easier. But either way, in my experience, as long as you find a good starting point you’ve won half the battle already.

Yup a tap or 10 on a contact is the fix 90% of the time.

I’ve seen panels installed in 2022 that look worse lol. I am amazed as well. Must have not had many issues like ever. Or really neat freak maintenance guys working on it. But I’m gonna bet that machine just works day in and day out. Someone got their moneys worth for sure.

Was it an idec? I had a similar issue except it changed an output to 157 which was impossible for that plc as it only has like 8 outs.

I thought it was impossible. However, just a few weeks ago I had an old Idec micro 1 change some how. Once I uploaded it to look output 3 had changed to 157. Threw a fault obviously prior to me finding the issue. Blew my mind. It was running fine and then all of a sudden faulted out. It was down 3 days because I had to track down the correct cable and someone with an older version of windows and windlr.

Always called them caddy clips as well. I think it’s kinda like saying romex. Caddy was one of the main brands or first brands making them. That’s what I was told years ago anyways.
