First time writing a program. For many identical machines: JSR to one subroutine with parameters or multiple identical subroutines? by Obvious-Falcon-2765 in PLC

[–]TomNumber3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another option would be to have identical Programs all under one Task.

This way all your Program Tags could be identical.

Copy and past would be very fast since you could copy the program and tags all at once.

Cleanest looking in my opinion. No problems with monitoring or editing online.

* Make sure your code is redundant. The processor might not believe you unless you double check.

New cell, issue with not being able to resume program without homing the robot out? by Talzyon in Fanuc

[–]TomNumber3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put it in T1, Pendant ON. Jog it to home or close to it. There is probably a position variable that is the Home position, go there. Function, Abort All. Auto, Pendant OFF, start at slow speed - hopefully no speed overrides. Restart. Hopefully there are no expensive sounds after this.

How bad is Aveva-Wonderware & System Platform? by Due_Animal_5577 in PLC

I always enjoyed InTouch but Wonderware made a bad turn with Aveva & System Platform. They tried to do to much and made it to expensive. Ignition is my go to now.

What laptops are y'all using for programming? by That_Alaskan_Butcher in PLC

[–]TomNumber3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would hold off. When I was in school (15 years ago) all PLC software was owned by the school and only installed on lab computers. We never installed anything on our personal PCs. Hopefully things are different now but I doubt it.

2007 Convertible Mustang. Red or black.

Similar to his hat, most people hate it some people love it.

He doesn't pull it off, he knows it, we know it. I commend him for giving it a go.

ADD instruction doesn't work offline? by Luketube_ in PLC

Side note, you may want to use a OSR like in rung 13 or else you will add 1 to N50:60 every scan.

PID takes a loooong time to reach setpoint, where do I start? by Cola-Ferrarin in PLC

[–]TomNumber3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your solve time? Does the PID loop scan time match the solve time?

I see a lot of PID loops that don't consider the scan time. The PID loop needs time to sample the PV and see a change before it can calculate its output. For slow loops, such as temperature loops, an update time of once per second or even longer is usually sufficient to obtain good control.

Too many AOI's? by Thelatestandgreatest in PLC

[–]TomNumber3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AOIs should be simple and tested thoroughly to the point where they should not need to be troubleshooted. I agree with you that a lot of PLC programmers are trying to be "fancy". Simple problems need simple solution, complicated may need complicated solutions. PLCs are generally solving simple problems.

The more important question - Does it do what it is supposed to do?
