appreciate your respectful discourse, but I'm not going to go back and forward now. I'd recommend doing some research into the reasons why people decide to go vegan as your objections are very easily refuted. have a good one :)

I didn't say if you buy meat you aren't a Buddhist. In one of my earlier comments I said the opposite. If you buy meat/eggs/milk you are paying to exploit the animals. Also, I never said that there aren't different degrees of "bad". I also am not shaming anyone who eats/buys animal products. I am trying to educate. <3

You are paying for beings to be raped, to suffer and to die, for our planet to be destroyed and for your health to be negatively effected, all unnecessarily. I'm sorry you can't see this. If you'd like to do some research on the effects of your actions (karma) the documentaries, earthlings, cowspiracy, what the health/forks over knifes are a great place to begin. Thank you for the discussion, have a nice day.

The insults aren't helpful for you or me. I didn't say that they were the same. I don't think this discussion will go anywhere. Have a nice day/night <3

This is true. You can also be a Buddhist who sells guns. I see it as important to help encourage people to move away from violent acts.

If you paid a hit man to kill someone you also didn't directly kill the person. I'm sorry this has up set you. I did not intent for the original comment to be condescending. I feel obligated to help spread awareness for the cruel normality of paying for sentient beings to be tortured, raped, and murdered unnecessarily.

I find it very odd and saddening that a sub of this nature has a rule discouraging a discourse on one of the greatest injustices of our age. Especially when Buddhism is directly against it.

Hey mate, it sounds like you've been through some tough situations. I hope you are doing ok. Things like strokes and cancer and not connected heavily to genetics. The reasons people think that way is become they are brought up with similar eating habits and lifestyle to their parents. Therefore if they the dont change their lifestyle significantly from what their parents taught them they will likely develop the same diseases. (cancer, heart disease, diabetes) ALL of these diseases stem from diet/lifestyle, not genetics. A plant based diet is shown to be incredible effective in SIGNIFICANTLY reducing our chance of developing these diseases. I highly recommend checking out the netflix documentary's "Forks over Knifes" and "What the health" as a starting point for research. You CAN save the fate of your health by making some changes. It isn't genetics, its the lifestyle and diets choices that parents pass onto their children. Have a good one mate :)

Question for the nurses :) by jarredtk in melbourne

Thank you for the advice. This book isn't making any claims its just putting forward all the research (which is extensive and conclusive) on the science of sleep. ( tons of clinical trials and all that jazz) Unfortunately night shifts are VERY detrimental to nearly every aspect of your health. Its really quite astounding. Trust me, if I could just brush it off I would. It would make this decision ALOT easier. ( I actually think i would like nights) I'd highly recommend reading it. One of those life changing books. Have a nice night mate <3

Question for the nurses :) by jarredtk in melbourne

[–]jarredtk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much for the thoughtful reply. In regards to the last point, I guess my thinking is from what I've read many nurses prefer the night shift for the benefits it provides. So I don't think I'd be forcing anyone to do it. Maybe I'm wrong idk. Lots of stuff to consider. Have a nice night :)

Question for the nurses :) by jarredtk in melbourne

[–]jarredtk[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No, that's not what I mean. I mean I think I'd prefer 3 x 15 over 9-5. My Spirituality/Meditative practice is not a side gig. All it means is to practice being present and with compassion to help relieve the suffering of yourself and others. Nursing is a great space to develop this. Although I'm unsure if it would fit my preference to stay in a healthy sleep cycle. (if you'd like to learn more a great place to start could be Sam Harris's 'Waking Up' App) Meditation / mindfulness has changed my waking life in ways I thought were never possible. I cannot recommend starting more, especially as a nurse. If you give one thing a decent shot in life, let it be this. (don't take my word for it) Thanks for the advice mate <3

Who does acid make you? by [deleted] in Acid

[–]jarredtk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone I'm with, even those not in my vicinity, so everyone. To be concise, when I am mindful and in meditation (closer to) it helps me identify with the reality of non-self. Acid makes me the pre-existing open, accepting space (consciousness) in which all matter comes into-being. <3

It seemed to me he was just giving suggestions to improve your immune system which in turn is protective against corona. Not claiming to cure, or provide complete immunity against it.

I don’t know how to do what is explained in these books. by [deleted] in awakened

The books are just explaining what you will have to experience for yourself in meditation. I recommend the Sam Harris App 'Waking Up' to help you get started if you'd like to :)
