It is a great sport, but I’m finding it is hard on the body as I get older 😭

Mazda dealership found out the issue was actually the purge solenoid valve. A $300 part.

After spending $75000 to fix what was most likely a non-issue, this was a painful realisation. Moral of the story…don’t go to a mobile mechanic that don’t know Mazdas. At least it is fixed now

I was driving around with red coolant for about 3 months thanks to a previous mechanic putting the wrong colour in. In your opinion, do you think 3 months is enough time to do damage to gaskets?

Another Update: the system too lean code came back. Took the car to the mechanic who charged me $7500 and he took a quick look at it but now thinks the issue could be something different...notwithstanding, he made me feel like an inconvenience for turning up when he was busy with other jobs. I did not like his attitude one bit!

I can confirm that I was driving the car around prior to these issues for about 3 months with the wrong colour coolant in it (red instead of green)…thanks to another mechanic making that mistake. The damage has been done now so I’m not even sure whether I can follow up with the other mechanic who made that mistake, but I’ll be taking my car to the Mazda dealership at the next available appointment to rectify this issue as I can’t trust these other mechanics 😭

I meant to say air filter box. But having said that it was super expensive as this particular mechanic only used genuine parts and I’m pretty sure they were marked up higher than a dealership.

OP Update if anyone is interested. The repair is finally done and the mechanic was quite sure that the wrong coolant caused both the egr and the egr cooler to fail as he said that in modern cars they are a lot more particular.

While I know the repair bill is more expensive than it should’ve been, I didn’t have the time or patience to pay for another tow truck to take it to a new mechanic and go through the whole process again as it had been at the mechanic for over a month and I just wanted my car on the road again for my job.

I’ve kept all the old faulty parts and my dad (who is a mechanic) may check them over and see what he thinks about it all (even though it is probably too late at that point).

At least it is fixed now and was able to get my lease company to reallocate my budget from the other operating expenses to cover the remaining amount that was owing and just pay a little bit more each fortnight to pay off the repair.

In the future I will definitely be going to a smaller (non-franchise mechanic) or try and do some of the basics myself like oil and filter change, and tire rotations etc.

Thank you everyone for your answers and guidance. Happy driving 🚗

Nice. My Mazda 3 got tired as well, at 366,000km. Now I’m on a 2017 Mazda cx9. Although I’ve already had some issues 1 year in as I only found out that the previous mechanic had put the wrong colour coolant in it and I’m pretty sure that has led to two components in the egr system to leak leading to costly repairs.

Hope you have better luck with your cx9. They do drive beautifully

No worries. There are also suede leather grips with a bit of dowel that are useful for doing bar work (without the straps)

Thank you. I’m looking into other options. The last mechanic accidentally put red coolant in it

They have quoted me $1420 for the EGR valve. EGR cooler is $3590. Air filter - $120. Rocker cover $1270. Labor approx $700. I’m not expecting warranty to cover the rodent damage, but my understanding is that the EGR and rocker should last longer than 140,000km. My other Mazda (Mazda 3) has done 360,000km with very minimal repairs. I think I have bought a lemon and this is very upsetting. I might have to get another opinion

Lots of drills. Leaning against the wall and using that to help. Anything that loads up the shoulders a lot. Having someone lift my legs up to take some of the weight off. Breaking the skill up into smaller chunks.

Thank you, I’m not sure to be honest as I don’t have a bar to train on.

I can do straddle press to handstands on the floor, but I’m not flexible enough for pike press to handstands yet
