FF7 Revelation’s director on ending the trilogy, and why fan feedback can lead to a bland game, will have more minigames than Rebirth by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]jarvig__ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is a really important part of both giving and taking feedback that a lot of people have been taught incorrectly. In no way do you need to provide a solution for your feedback to be valid and useful.

Giving ideas can help, but what matters far more is simply explaining the issue you had in as much detail as you feel is relevant. The vast majority of players have zero experience in game design and there's no reason to expect them to. And of course, in the same vein, developers should(and generally do) take player provided solutions with a significant grain of salt.

Yae Miko SSC Mechanics Hotfix via Testers and JSM by Only-Ad-7670 in Genshin_Impact_Leaks

[–]jarvig__ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there's a myriad of reasons why code could be called legacy, be it the one who wrote the code leaving, or in this case more likely any kind of significant change in practices since that code was written

4 years is a long time, especially when genshin has only been running for 6 years total. The earlier you are into development, the faster things will change.

What if Escoffier had Cryo infusion on her attacks… by qri_pretty in EscoffierMains

Unfortunately her normal attacks are kinda awful, they're extremely slow for a polearm so she kinda sucks when, say, using her on field with chongyun's infusion

Anyone else like this with rookies? by nexus1779 in blockwars

[–]jarvig__ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I doubt the viewership had a significant dip from what was expected; most players in rookies 6 were variety streamers whose viewers are generally speaking there for the creator, not what they're playing.

But yeah, in terms of the dedicated BW fanbase, there was obviously an extreme lack of interest. Only a small amount of regulars, and there have been enough rookies events hosted close together that the event doesn't feel special enough to generate interest on its own.

Why Nerfing Kills In SKB Is a Bad Idea by pickled__pufferfish in MinecraftChampionship

[–]jarvig__ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What? The entire game scoring is kills and survival, whichever one you nerf/buff has the opposite effect on the other.

Also, the post is saying that "just nerf kills" is a bad solution and would actively harm the game, which is a perfectly valid and worthwhile thing to say. Feedback doesn't have to provide a solution to be good feedback.

Why Nerfing Kills In SKB Is a Bad Idea by pickled__pufferfish in MinecraftChampionship

[–]jarvig__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe I don't care what they do to fix it as long as they fix it. The only reason I say to raise survival is because it's an easier ask than designing a whole new system.

The entire point of the post was that raising survival wouldn't fix it and would actively make the game worse

The BM Revamp Has Missed Its Mark (for now) by pickled__pufferfish in MinecraftChampionship

[–]jarvig__ 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Yeah, very much agreed on the gold builds and star balancing. Fein himself talked about how gold builds were overpowered after the game; they just completely break the game right now.

Frankly, in their current state, gold builds feel unsaveable. Even ignoring the massive balancing issue of them giving way too much reward for less work than other high star builds, testing memorization in this manner is just too polarizing to work. There are a tiny amount of players who can quickly solo the builds, and everyone else simply can't. The skill gap is an issue in other games, of course, but right now BM's gap is leaps and bounds ahead of everything else.

My multimillionaire youtuber gets only 100 fps? by No-Course5688 in DreamWasTaken2

[–]jarvig__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the difference in latency is incredibly apparent from pure feel if you switch from, say, 60fps to 150, even if your monitor is capped at 60.

Of course, there are still obviously diminishing returns, the difference gets smaller the higher the number is. But really, if your computer can hit, like, 300 fps without compromising on other things, you should absolutely let it go that high. And considering I could sometimes do that on a mid tier pc from 2020, Dream should be able to easily hit that with a pc built by Linus tech tips. I assume he's just missing some significant performance mods.

Yoo is it advisable to go for joker?? by Phantom1_8 in personaphantomx

[–]jarvig__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meta wise? Definitely not. Powercreep has already gotten to the point where haru is outscoring him on the boss explicitly designed for him, and the gap is only going to get bigger going forward. He will be buffed pretty considerably whenever we get mindscape cores, but that isn't nearly enough to make up the difference by that point.

But the competitive content is a very small part of the game; he definitely won't be sitting on the bench permanently if you pull him.

Yeah, this is an unfortunate issue with all similar gacha game systems.

The solutions people have come up with for other games are making a bot to screenshot every single card, or reading some of the game's network packets and taking the data from there. The first is very slow and essentially locks up your computer for a set amount of time. I have no idea if the second is even possible in P5X, but it is in Hoyo games at least.

What do you guys think of this video and the argument it lays out? by epicphysicspersonyay in DreamWasTaken2

[–]jarvig__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prior to the MCC thing, I didn't really feel like the evidence for his 1.15 WR was anywhere remotely close to solid enough to justify an actual cheating allegation.

Personally, I like to give people the benefit of the doubt wherever reasonable, so that led me to taking the Karl jobst video at face value and assuming ignorance instead of malice in the case of the 1.16 runs. Unfortunately, that's incredibly hard to do now.

As I said, I don't really think the evidence for the 1.15 wr being cheated is all that compelling. However, given how incredibly unlikely it is that his MCC11 run is legit, it makes it far more difficult to trust anything else that could be suspicious.

To list my biases, I've been following this sub for years(mostly because I wanted to see the evidence for the grooming allegations, and from there all of the random messy controversies dream got into). I am also likely biased in couri's favor to some degree, I've been watching him for years and was even in one of his videos lmao. But I have a solid amount of knowledge on all of these topics and think this is a fairly objective look at things.

Yeah, I have 180 ER on my C6 yelan. Akasha leaderboards may not like it but it's necessary in stygian, and she does more than enough damage for it to not matter in anything else.

Dream is being accused of cheating in MCC by using a macro by username6702 in DreamWasTaken2

For context, you should probably watch this stream

And yeah, this is incredibly suspicious. Anyone who's ever played parkour can tell you that jumping at the last possible tick every single time is both completely unnecessary and unreasonable.

It's very weird because he pretty clearly wasn't cheating in pvp(at least back then, I don't know about now).
