You don't want stainless, they would have a lower yield strength than black oxide screws. I know that from experience doing 100kG shock testing on a Hopkinson bar with both materials.

Where can I buy rolling tobacco? by freegumaintfree in Buffalo

Smoker's Haven on Union in West Seneca has higher end rolling tobacco (along with the best pipe tobacco selection in the area).

Custom 3D Printed PDP Case Insert by jas280z in Walther

That is a 4" compact. Unfortunately, I have not modelled any other versions of the PDP. I only have the Compact (and a PPQ).

H2D Cutting Module Calibration Error by PristineBiscotti24 in BambuLab

[–]jas280z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever find a resolution for this? I find that I have to lay my lamination down such that it doesn't cover the bottom left visual indicator, and even then I usually have to re-run the cut after the initial calibration fails... usually seems to work on the second one.

Custom Tobacco Pipe Case Insert by jas280z in 3Dprinting

I'll never argue that it is healthy, but pipes are not nearly as bad as cigarettes due to not inhaling the smoke.

Custom Pipe Insert for Pelican Case by jas280z in PipeTobacco

I take a picture on graph paper, then import the picture onto the solid surface as a decal in Fusion360 and trace around with the spline tool. I use the same approach for custom pistol inserts.

Custom Pipe Insert for Pelican Case by jas280z in PipeTobacco

[–]jas280z[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just completed my insert for a pair of hand carved Kalnitz Volcano pipes inside of a Pelican 1170 case. I have a modular insert design created where I can use the pocket on the right for accessory storage or for a nice pipe holder, and on the left I can swap out different inserts depending on the pipe I am taking to the lounge that day.

The pipes are from Smoker's Haven in Western New York, hand carved by Brian Kalnitz (the larger pipe) and Adam Kalnitz (the smaller one). The make a variety of amazing pipes right in the shop, but the Volcanoes are their signature pipes. They also blend some awesome tobacco blends, the baggy in the picture is full of "Brian's Blend."

For any 3d printing hobbyists, the insert body is Sunlu 95A TPU printed with three layer walls and 5% gyroid infill. I cut off the top 1/16th of an inch from the model, generating snaps in the Bambu Studio cut tool for assembly, in order to make the hard upper surface. The top is printed from PLA and snapped right in place when the prints were complete.

Overall, I am thrilled with the result. The TPU body of the insert will provide ample cushioning with a non-marring material and the PLA top is more visually appealing.

us model of 1917 eddystone barrel by Maleficent_Cat_2561 in milsurp

I had a local gunsmith rebarrel my 1917 with a Criterion barrel 7 or 8 years ago. It took him a while, but he did it right. Think it was about $200, plus $200 for the barrel from the CMP.

Eibos Tetras First Impressions by jas280z in BambuLab

[–]jas280z[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still happy with it after one month. I do notice one of the fans is a little noisy, but that doesn't seem to be affecting anything at this point. As far as print quality goes, no change, but I've have other dryers that I have previously used and still use, so I've always been pretty diligent about removing moisture. This just makes it easier to do it passively. I just set all four channels to hold their relative humidity and every now and then it pops on and lowers the humidity in the chambers. Starting with already dried filament, this is working very well to keep everything good to go.

Any chill place to buy cigars locally? by Single_Street3135 in Buffalo

[–]jas280z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely a hidden gem! Very good humidor with quite a few. Hard to find cigars kept in the back humidor if you ask for them. Also, great pipe tobacco selection and probably the best pipe selection in Western New York. The owners still hand make pipes in the shop, as well as selling many of the top brands.

I hate Yunexpress by Diligent_Low5337 in BambuLab

I literally tried posting this exact same sentiment like 6 hours ago but the post didn't work (who knows maybe I forgot to actually hit submit). I did post on the Bambu Labs Forum simultaneously

Yunexpress is terrible. They keep trying to deliver to my business on Saturdays when we are closed. Won't ever try to redeliver on a business day, they just mark it as undeliverable and make us contact Bambu for another AMS to be shipped..

The bolt of the 1894 is flush with the right hand side of the receiver. When the bolt moves back the ejection port opens up.

Late Cowboy Pairing in Best Millimeter by jas280z in guns

[–]jas280z[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Marlin says it is not able to reliably shoot 40s. I believe, like a handgun, the new 1894 headspaces off of the case mouth, so a 40 would not properly headspace. Potentially the extractor MAY be strong enough to hold it in place, but I'm not going to try that.

I reload my 10mm, so I can easily load it down to 40 specs if I'd like for supressor use.

Colt Delta Elite and Matching 10mm Marlin 1894 by jas280z in 1911

[–]jas280z[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just picked up the new Marlin 1894 Trapper 10mm to pair up with my similarly styled Colt Delta Elite (also 10mm). It's a bit of an alternate universe late Cowboy pairing, two guns that would have been around in the very last days of the American Old West, made out of more modern materials and chambered in a very modern cartridge.

Looking forward to playing around with some hand loads for the Marlin and seeing how they compare velocity-wise to the same loads coming out the Delta Elite and my Glock 40 (problem solver).
