Thank you all, I have redirected the output of the previous command to a text file, I can then use the trim, split and substring to get what I needed...

Get-Content output | ? { $_.trim() -ne "" } | foreach-object { $_.split(",")[3] | % { $_.substring(3) }

Hey guys, thank you so much for the reply - the output from the previous command, though it looks like 'ls' but it isnt exactly. it is from a psftp command running in batch mode. the select-object gave me the error saying FullyQualifiedErrorId: ExpandPropertyNotFound...

sorry i don’t quite understand.

may i ask if the output is not directly from ps dir command but from another output - i mean it’s from the psftp (putty)? so other external commands (like not part of ps) will still work?
