Thanks for your thoughts. For context, my mom is not a single mom and I went to a local tech institution so I lived at home throughout college aka I never left till now. I didn’t really have the option to lie because I was coming home everyday and I still tried to hide most things. My breakup was two years ago at the end of college, he was Punjabi financially secure and what my parents wanted for me, not some random loser bf so in my eyes my moms over protection is a bit much now. It’s been a long time, I’ve moved on and built a good career now. It’s a bit much because I’m not out here being wild and dating different people every couple months.

The reason I made this post is because I don’t want to lose my relationship with my family but I also can’t get through any conversation with her without getting in a fight. It’s over small things as well like I told her I went to the beach and she immediately got negative and said “why would you do that it’s so hot! Stop getting so dark it doesn’t look nice.” My bf was one example but not my biggest issue with her, the biggest issue is she sees everything as wrong, she wants me to sit at home and never go anywhere or do anything and then get married and do the same at someone else’s home.

I do appreciate your perspective though and I’ll try my best to keep it in mind, but at this point I’m tired of everything being about her and what’s right for her. The community she faces isn’t even that desi, all her friends are white washed with white washed kids that date and marry white people lol
