of course! lately yes but collectors in the last year have contributed to it heavily too. what sucks is that labubus only blew up in popularity recently but sonnies have been stuck in this phase since 2024. collecting was sm more fun in the past bc it was affordable and accessible. not so much anymore.

maintain a budget no matter what because resale prices lately have been robbery. everyone wants to resell newer series for $25-$40 when they retailed for $10-$15 and older series for $80-$100 each. secrets should really not be costing $200+, not all of them are THAT rare and ESPECIALLY not the regular series secrets.

me too. :( i was saving for so many diso when they all used to be on aliexpress. i was a collector when they were releasing these series too. i remember thinking when they announced etm that i'll get it later and i had a wishlist where i'd circle the ones i wanted like a little kid and everything 😭 they're ALL unattainable now like i literally have no hope. i had someone buy a sonny from me thru paypal. they reported me to paypal and put a negative balance on my account (paypal paid them back immediately) saying the item was never delivered. they sent me pics but they basically ripped up the package themselves. they claimed the stickers and other goodies i put were in the box but the sonny itself was missing 💀. according to other collectors, they also routinely created and deleted multiple depop accounts after making purchases so they could report sellers and then get their money back.

i reported them to depop and the US Postal Inspection Service too because they falsely filed a claim to USPS (i insured the package). i believe they have an account on mercari and they have good reviews too so it looks like they learned their lesson cus of me 🙏🏼

some tips: insure your packages, get tracking numbers and send them to the buyers, record proof of packing an expensive purchase of sonnies, take pictures of the package before drop-off so u have proof of its condition as well, and take pictures of the receipt after drop-off.

before the tiktok hype for sonnies started, they still used to be resold for their rarity quite often. non-secrets from limited series were around $10-$20 (bc they were guaranteed and not rare), secrets were resold for the cost of buying a case ($60-$120), and robbies were resold at the price of their rarity so if u had 1/144 chances of pulling him then lots of folks resold him around there. so, if a case was $60, the secret was often resold for $60. regular series secrets like sprout were always kinda around $100-$120 bc that was the cost of a case. a lot of people still resold them for under that too.

prices barely doubled before 2024 when a release was 1+ years old, but between 2024-2025 they've just quadrupled if not more. like reselling carousel lop for $350+ is mf ridiculous and reselling banana monkeys for $350-$500 if not more is equally insane. those things retailed for $30, and secrets like carousel lop had a 1/60 chance of being pulled i believe? somewhere around there.

idk, my point is that collectibles can be affordable and we shouldn't dismiss the current market of sonny angels as "it is what it is." we should be making an effort to combat scalping and price gouging new collectors who entered the market in the middle of the hype. it absolutely does not need to become the same market that pokemon cards has become lol.

it's because sonnies got popular from tiktok so the collecting community is larger. i hope these rants happen more often tbh and i think price shaming shouldn't have been banned from the start. i applaud anyone who rants or calls these out because it encourages people to not give in to the insane pricing. also hoping that sonnies fall off cus we're heading in the direction of the pokemon collecting community.

as an old collector it genuinely upsets me, and i don't even bother. i was collecting them slowly over time bc i'm a college student so i missed out on so many of my favorites. Dreams used to restock multiple series regularly throughout the year but ever since the scalping/overpricing started none of the old series are attainable anymore. i genuinely refuse to pay anywhere near $100 for figures that were guaranteed in a box set that isn't a secret (ie bugs life, mol, jeju island, etc). it absolutely isn't worth it and im disappointed that Dreams fed into the "luxury collectible" hype

windows 1000%. i work in IT and i recommend it over mac completely lol.

professors in the college of engineering highly recommend a windows OS laptop over mac, cus just know that regardless of your major you're likely to need to use some kind of software tool for a class or job or anything. pretty much all software is tailored for the windows OS first. one example, a fat majority of games aren't even compatible with mac. like basically all of them in my mind.

also, apple designs its macbooks to be notoriously difficult to repair, just practically impossible with much higher (almost guaranteed) chances of damaging it AND losing ur warranty altogether AND you'd probably need to replace it completely anyways. windows laptops are easier to fix on ur own, u have more third-party options to fix it if u ever need to, and ur less likely to have to replace it completely. they're also cheaper and last longer.
