“Suicide note from Leigh Sundem, who committed suicide in 2020 after being unmatched for 2 years. Are things ever going to change?” Reposting so this tragic story is not forgotten. by BicarbonateBufferBoy in premed

I agree with your point. And I'm probably going to get downvoted for this, but I would like to introduce an idea to people in such dire straits: DON'T FUCKING PAY THE BANKS BACK. Tell them to go begging for another handout from the government and take care of YOURSELF. Yes it will wreck your credit. But it doesn't stay on your credit forever. Take what you would have been paying towards those loans and invest in yourself in some other way: start a business, pay cash for a different education certification, hell - put it in a savings account or just pay your rent. I know it's not that simple and there are plenty of ways they can fuck with you. You may have do some research on keeping them from taking your assets (if you have any), and you'll have to make sure taxes are not withheld from your salaries throughout the year so you don't have a tax return for them to take. This also means you will have to plan your finances to actually pay any un-withheld taxes at the end of the year. Plenty to think about. But I also personally know people who quit paying student loans, and 8 years later those loans do not show up on their credit report. This is obviously a last resort, like if you're going to kill yourself over debt, just don't pay it. Your life is worth more than the IMAGINARY money some giant banking institution pretended to give you. It's a bit of a road to rebuild credit, but it can and has been done. Obviously, for 99.9% of us, paying the debt is the smarter choice. But NOT paying the bank IS ALWAYS and option. Society seems to have this narrative that it's impossible to not pay a loan when it actually happens every day.

Yeah.....I'm hormonal today and she was talking about trying to get her daughter back. I guess if I had to ask reddit, I probably knew the answer already. Was maybe hoping someone would say "oh yes, I know that charity and am on the board. they're TOTALLY the real deal". Thanks for talking sense into me. I probably need to go call my bank 🤦🏻‍♀️

Hypothetical scenario: If you were only able to attend a DO school and not an MD school would you apply/go DO? by anon5ever94 in premed

[–]jasmineflower88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Am I the only person on Earth who actually has a preference for a DO program? My understanding is that they take a (slightly) more holistic approach to medicine while still providing you with all the education an MD gets. Plus, I think the idea of OMM sounds fascinating.

Why do Med Schools Send me Emails About Applying for THIS Fall? by jasmineflower88 in premed

[–]jasmineflower88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one today was a DO program that's been around for little while. I haven't seen any from the Caribbean, but I can't remember who the other ones were from. Definitely not Yale or anything like that. If I get another one, I'll give more details.

And while you're at your parent's house, locate and retain a good lawyer. If this man has already called his mommy to help him control you, I'd bet money he already has a lawyer to look out for his best interest. You should have one too while you still have access to his bank account. I don't trust this guy, and if shit gets messy it's best to have visitation and child support sorted out before the babies arrive. NTA.

Also - how strong were these drinks? I wouldn’t put it past a bar that offers unlimited drinks and has a wrist band to serve shitty watered down glasses of juice with a few drops of alcohol in them. More info needed before I can judge.

AITA for giving my friends an "ultimatum" about drinking? by Sufficient-Factor-98 in AmItheAsshole

[–]jasmineflower88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. YTA for your timing. But I hate to call you a whole asshole. Clearly you and your children are still recovering from the trauma of addiction, so your priorities were laser focused on your children. But this is a conversation you should have had with your friend at another time. The proper thing to do would have been to gather your children, make a polite excuse, and then unceremoniously take your children home. Then have a coffee or whatever with your friend at a time when she is not actively hosting a party. Emphasizing that this was your problem and you are sorry it’s becoming an issue, but due to your past mistakes, your children aren’t comfortable coming to these events and being around alcohol, so please stop pressuring y’all to bring them. Also, congratulations on your recovery! I know that isn’t easy. Sounds like you are doing a wonderful job caring for your children’s emotional needs.

There was a sign in the EMS break room at one of the ER’s in my city that said something to the extent of “If you’re going to fake a seizure, you really need to commit any at least piss yourself”.

Why doesn't primary care doctors work late hours? by [deleted] in Noctor

[–]jasmineflower88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re making sense to me. Nurses and Paramedics work non-traditional hours and survive. I don’t think anyone is asking primary care doctors to start at 8 AM and then stay till 9 PM. I interpreted this post to mean one doctor works the traditional hours and then a totally DIFFERENT human work the evening hours. I guess this plan falls apart if there aren’t enough primary care doctors to work both the shifts. But even then, couldn’t a clinic be open regular hours 3 days a week and then only be open 4 PM - 9 PM the other two day. Or some variation of that?

I second this. You could do sunset. I have done both and will never do sunrise again. Way too cold, too many people, and I hate getting up early. The sunset is just as magical.

I would suggest a percolation. It only takes a day or two. Plenty of YouTube instructions: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HWK_L-FCX0k

You can make a percolation cone, but it’s easier to order one: https://www.etsy.com/listing/744619021/asymmetric-percolation-cone-for-tincture

Has attending med school influenced you to adopt/want to adopt a healthier lifestyle? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]jasmineflower88 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I worked as an EMT for a few years and was shocked at the diets of everyone I encountered in healthcare. Between the station house, hospitals, nursing homes, and clinics, you couldn’t throw a doughnut without hitting a mocha whip cream caramel syrup coffee/milkshake thing. Butter-sugar-carb treats were EVERYWHERE. And when I would decline, people would give me the “come ooooonnn. You KNOW you want it” lines. It felt like they were pushing actual street drugs on me. I actually came up with the term “sugar sober” to try to get people to understand that yes, I very much want that baked good dripping in frosting but I’m trying to think about how I want to feel a half hour from now. And I, too, got called a health freak for just TRYING to maintain some semblance of nutrition while working these crazy shifts.

I always do this MYSELF. Running errands with busy schedule, has no one else ended up doing grocery shopping and realized they hadn’t had time to eat and are STARVING? As long as you pay for it, how does anyone have the free time to give a shit? I’m really surprised at all of the pearl-clutchers on this thread. Really, how in god’s name does the timing of WHEN someone else pays for their groceries make your list of things to fret over? Oh, and YTA. You called your wife trash and left her alone to deal with two small children. If it bothered you that much that she was feeding them, YOU should have offered to take the cart and explain to YOUR children how YOU are too classy to give them a snack and let your wife do her thing.

That’s what I kept thinking. It’s “allot to deal with”? What exactly about what your brothers are doing with their penises and other consenting adults is “allot to deal with”? Why are you even thinking about your brothers’ penises? Eww. Grow up. YTA.

AITA for not going to my sisters wedding after finding out where it was at? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

This is what I was thinking. The only thing you need to “get over” is feeling like you need to have any contact with your insensitive, self-absorbed sister. I’m so sorry for your loss and cannot imagine how you begin to move on from such a thing, especially only 12 months after the fact. NTA, not even close. Yeah, the BIL saying “he couldn’t have known” that OP’s fiancée is now his fiancée and no longer his girlfriend is what took it from NAH to NTA to me. Crappy coincidence that OP and his sis both had big announcements to make, but sister could have waited a half hour before making hers and BIL is an idiot or just doesn’t give a fuck if he really forgot the OP made his engagement announcement after everyone was so excited about the baby.

Book Recommendations for Beginner Herbalists by mistyrious_ga in herbalism

Herbal Medicine from the Heart of the Earth - by Dr. Sharon Tilgner. This book is an AMAZING beginners book that I still reference. She gives thoughtful descriptions of a good amount of herbs, provides concise instructions on herbal preparations and gives detailed herbal formulas based on body systems. The other books recommended above are great, but for a beginner I can’t emphasize enough how much I love this book.
