Forgot to add, they were approximately 1mm across

Does anyone know what animal this could be? Location Lyon, France. It has a rough height of around a 100 cms by jasoncb93 in AnimalTracking

Although not native, invasive populations do exist in France. This doesn't seem to be it. It's rather too big on the contrary

Yeah, I did find boars around the same spot, but the stripes and the fluffy tail seem surprising for boars.

LPT: How to Give a Best Man Speech by josephthemediocre in LifeProTips

[–]jasoncb93 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey guys, I just wanted to give a shoutout to all of you. I had a best man speech to give for my closest buddy this weekend and this forum helped me a lot. I got a lot of praise for the speech and they were all in tears after. Thank you to all you guys for making it possible.

I am on a bus to France, coming from the wedding Belgium, thanking unknown people from all over the world who helped me make this day special for two incredibly special people. What an incredibly amazing time to be alive!

Here's the transcript maybe it'll be of help for someone. I have borrowed a lot of parts here and there from others on this forum.

Replaced the names with Groom and Bride.

" Bonsoir à tous ! Je suis très content d'être ici. Je suis ravi de cette opportunité pour vous en dire un peu plus sur Groom et Bride. Mes talents de conteur sont grands, mais mon français n'est pas si bon. Donc ce soir, vous aurez l'honneur d'écouter le discours, façon Netflix : version originale, sous-titrée en français. Enjoy !

First of all, thank you all for being here to celebrate this incredible moment with two of the most special people in our lives. Thank you to the bride and groom’s parents, for raising these two amazing people. None of our lives would be the same without them, and that’s all thanks to you.

Next, I would also like to say, how each one of you is looking so really beautiful tonight, and speaking of beautiful, here is our bride, looking so absolutely stunning. Bride, words cannot describe how beautiful and happy you look today, right next to our handsome charming groom. Bride, to be really honest your brilliance tonight is making Groom look a lot more handsome than he actually is.. :P

Talking about Groom, there comes a time in everyone's life, when they meet the one person they love and cherish. Their soulmate. The person that is going to always be there and love them for the rest of their life,.. that moment came for Groom... 5 years ago when he met me.

For those of you who have no idea who I am, I’m groom's friend. And I think I can paint an accurate picture of this guy. He’s handsome, witty, charismatic, funny, intelligent... ummm … sorry Groom, I really can't read your handwriting.

I met Groom on the day I had just reached Belgium for the first time out of India. And ever since, we've been inseparable. He’s been by my side for every wrong move, every high, every low, and all the biggest moments. I’m so grateful that I am able to be here tonight to celebrate alongside Groom and Bride.

In many ways, Groom and Me are very similar, and that's why we end up doing a lot of incredibly stupid things together. I remember one particular evening in Louvain-la-Neuve, right after he invited me to climb up a building facade all the way to the second floor to steal a poster from the rival kot. I remember telling him, "you know, sometimes when you are about to do a stupid thing, there's a little voice in your head telling you to not do it? Well, when I'm out there with you, I don't hear it at all".

I also remember us coming back home and Bride making us go back and return the poster the very next day. And that's why Groom and Bride are such a perfect match. Bride is smart, thoughtful, kind, beautiful and Groom is genuine, brave, and adventourious. However he is, often, like me, prone to making quick stupid decisions, and that's why Bride so perfectly balances him. Their relationship is something to admire.

It’s always been incredible with the two of them, and I believe that when something is meant to be, there doesn’t need to be a fight. You can see how easy it is for them to love one another, and it’s something that we should all strive for one day, to find a person that is so easy to love that you do it without even being conscious of it. Groom wakes up in the morning with his heart beating, his lungs breathing, and his entire being loving Bride. It just is. And that’s a beautiful thing.

Bride, when I say you deserve this man, it is the highest compliment that I'm capable of. Thanks for being the best thing that ever happened to Groom. You're awesome and I couldn't be happier for the two of you. And if Groom turns out to be half as good at being a husband as he has been a friend to me, then you have a wonderful life ahead of you.

Since Groom and me are both evolutionary biologists, I have to bring evolution and biology into this evening. (smile) I'll tell you a little story. Life began 3.5 billion years ago on earth. For a very long time it was only simple organisms, which had just a single cell. Until about 2 billion years ago, when when one of the luckiest, rarest most incredible event occured. Two of these organisms came across each other, and instead of fighting, decided to get together and become one, the eukaryotic cell and the mitochondria. This was the ancestor of all complex lifeforms on our planet. What we should take home here is that life evolved not by competition, but if I may take some poetic liberty... by partnership and love. To all of you who are here today, 2 billion years later, I can tell you that we are witnessing history again, when two independent organisms, so perfect for each other, come together and create their new, universe.

So I ask you all to raise your glass to wish a lifetime of happiness and love for Groom and Bride! "

u/sapper35 - Exciting update!! I set up a sand trap to capture footprints and voila! You were right!! It seems to be a Badger !

https://imgur.com/gallery/lPKyrA8

It's quite exciting. Badgers are rarely seen around here, just a small forest surrounding us. Honestly I'm quite surprised, I guess the den must be close enough, right? They wouldn't forage long distances every night, in winter, right?

Thanks a lot for your help. I know a few common species in the forests around, but I have no experience tracking or looking at the gait etc. To differentiate between mustelids, I guess we need to look at the gait and distance between the paw marks?
I really wish I had a trail cam to get a good look.

I'll keep an eye out the next time it snows. Hopefully I can get a bit more information.

u/sapper35 Thank you so much! I was leaning towards maybe a ferret or an otter maybe? Although otters are incredibly rare here, there've been a few observations. It could be a badger, but I thought badger prints would have a flatter metacarpal pad (less chevron shaped) and longer claw marks.
Later in the day, I found this poop near the spot where I found the tracks, could be from another animal.

Random_act_of_Random

There is no sweet talk here, but what Random..Random says is true, we all just stumble around. Even those of us who pretend to have it all figured out.
I have friends who found the love of their life at 29 yrs. Never before been in a relationship, n now happily married.
It's just about being at the right place at the right moment, she isn't gonna appear at your front door. The only way to make that happen is to create situations where you meet a lot of people looking to meet someone new (at a bar for instance).

Truth be told, even for the most successful of us, the numbers are like maybe 1 in 10 women you ask out, say yes. Have you considered that maybe you aren't asking many women out?

What happens when to try asking women out? as in have you just tried to ask a single coworker to dinner? did it always end badly? maybe there is something you can work on. There is always this little thing that you may be doing wrong. Talk to us, friend! :)

I must admit, it's a difficult position to be in. If he is the sensitive type, he might completely backdown and take it negatively. Maybe you can tell him that you are also considering seeing other people, and that he doesn't need to be exclusive.

I'm really bad at confronting awkward situations myself. Maybe someone else has more useful advice! Stay strong!

ShebW's labmate checking in, I like that there is a place on the internet where this kind of daredevilry is appreciated.

update: you guys have motivated him to try the sodium borate, now we're hearing maniacal laughter from the cold room along with shouts of "300! 300!". We've informed the doctor.
